Over payment

Options
Good morning,

On 24th December I paid off my credit card in full. On 2nd January they took the minimum payment.

I’m now a few pounds in credit.

Should I recall the direct debit?
Am I going to be penalised for this?
 Any other advice?

Thanks

I doubt it, but the way to be sure would be to phone or use the live chat (if an option) to check. As you made a manual payment prior to the automated, and you are only 'a few pounds' in credit I can’t see them viewing this as a deliberate attempt to put yourself in credit. If the CC company is going to do anything I would expect it to be a simple refund of the credit amount, though as said get in touch with them to clarify.

I paid my  credit card in part once because I needed to buy something that took me over the limit

I am set up to take full amount monthly so that's what they took the full amount already notified  leaving 1500 in credit

I didn't get any response from Halifax and I just let it run

    No problems

    No
    No
Relax and keep using the card normally.
  • You can ask for it back, though it might be easier to just spend the minimum payment on something you were going to buy anyway, if you spend slightly more just transfer the difference to your card straight away. And cancel the direct debit

Some will adjust the DD to allow for any payments, I know Lloyds do for example

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
