Lick paint not matching previous tin (pics)

As the title, really.
I had a mostly full 2.5l tin of Lick Green 01 that had been bought and opened in early 2021, and only had a small bit used.
Cut to my new home, I put the rest of the 2.5l on 2 walls of my living room, and ordered another 2 tins to do the remaining walls and ceiling, which arrived today.
The colour of the paint in the new tins is VERY different to the old tin.
The old tin is a lovely spring green with yellow undertones, as described on the website - it is warm, and welcoming. The new tin is more of a sage green - very blue/grey undertones, very cold seeming.
Now I have a £45 tin of paint which I don’t like the colour of, that is non refundable because I stirred it and dipped a brush into it once.

Was it unreasonable of me to expect the colour to match, given that it is advertised as the same colour?
I still have a small amount of the original tin left, do you think I’d be able to get an accurate colour matching service at Homebase if I put a sample on paper? I know the finish may be off, and so I’d have to repaint the whole room again, but it’s the colour that’s most important to me.
Thanks!

The top sample is the old tin, the bottom sample is the new tin. Both samples are dry, just 1 coat. It’s lit by a Lumie sunlamp, so the colour is accurate, but I’ll get a daytime photo tomorrow as well.

Like wallpaper, tins of paint have batch numbers and it is important that if you find you have tins with different numbers you get a bigger container and mix them if they are going to be used in the same room for consistancy. The difference in yours is particularly noticeable but not that surprising after a 2 year gap between batches. You could try lightening the new batch to get a shade you like better by mixing in some white rather than wasting it but you would need to experiment with some small samples to see if that would work. Worth a try if it avoids wasting the paint you have.1

This happens even with paint from the same tin after years. Have you never touched up a wall only to look at it and think "damn now I have to go the whole wall". Paint tends to look brighter when it goes on new.
Nice colour though1 -
I am sure on the side of the tin it will warn you about this issue. The problem is just very small changes to the pigment mix, or the underlying paint can be noticeable.
To my untrained eye, the new tin looks like basically the same colour shade but darker. As @Keep_pedalling suggested adding maybe 10%? of white paint into it could help. Best to experiment on a small scale first, and mix very well.1 -
Thank you all!
The outcome was that neither Homebase nor Johnstones could match the old colour accurately, so after testing some other samples from other brand, I’ve decided on a new green altogether.
I’ll return the unopened tin, and then either try to sell the opened tin, or more likely tint it a different shade and use it in another room. Have you tried B&Q for matching?0
-
No local B&Q, unfortunately. I’ve picked out a lovely new green, and will have it matched and made up by Johnstones in February, when I can afford it‘When you only have two pennies left in the world, spend one on bread and the other on flowers. Hi,you're usually cheaper buying off the shelf, than paying for white with a squirt and a rumble, sure you could find a likeable shade.1

@frugalmacdugal Oh I did find an off the shelf colour I like - unfortunately it’s farrow & ball, and the budget does not stretch to that! In this case, I’ll take the squirt hahah.‘When you only have two pennies left in the world, spend one on bread and the other on flowers.
