I am not sure if this is standard policy but I have severe doubts about the quality of the staff training on these helplines. No doubt they are thinking if you have been given false information you could take it further. Not sure where as I rarely have call to deal with them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. No news from Nationwide yet, their ways of working are so old. I will call them tomorrow if I haven't heard anything.
I seen a thread about Halifax giving offers, did an eligibility checker with them and I'm pre approved for a lot of their cards up to £3,000 including 12 month balance transfer. Even with the 3.49% fee, it would save me about £550 over a year. I'll wait to hear back from Nationwide. Only thing I'd need to consider though is that the APR will then be 29.9% which will be higher than my other cards, so I'd be reliant on getting another deal in 12 months, which the way things are progressing, would be likely. Positive news though.1 -

I did an eligibility check and got told I 'may' be offered a card, pretty standard terminology. I've scouted around on here and found a few similar threads created asking for people's experiences with this terminology, mixed results. I asked on live chat and got told some people are declined at eligibility stage but no one is approved at this stage, they are either told no or 'may'. Even more interestingly, I put an initial request of a limit of £10k in and when told I 'may' be offered a card, they said I would be offered a maximum of up to £20k. This seems surprising given the level of debt a soft search would show up, but maybe being a 'member', with a decent salary, is helping my case.
The dilemma is to apply and have a hard search, which in all honesty probably won't impact me much as I haven't done a search for a few months and probably won't be until I get 0% offers probably closer towards the end of this year. But in reality, no one except sub prime lenders are offering me anything at the moment, so I would be very surprised to get offered the card.
No one is able to tell me the right thing to do but wondered people's opinions on it.Baby Step 6/7 . £16000 saved and invested. £47,000 deposit paid on new home DEBT FREE !!!

Got accepted for the Nati0nwide card, just shy of £18k limit, 0% for 15 months. Should save me £300 a month interest. Fantastic news. It will take a week or two with the bank holidays and weekends to get my account set up, request and complete the balance transfers.3
