‘So I told her, tough conversation, but supportive. I will only be contributing to variable living costs, i.e. groceries, petrol, bill increases etc, so we estimate that will save around £700 per month beyond the SOR above. As all monthly payments listed are above the interest charge, I am going to slowly eat into the balances. I feel it's better to pay an extra £15-£20k overall than to default on them all’
Does variable living costs include rent or are you not contributing to that now? If so is your partner covering your share of the rent?0 -

If you don't trust the financials I've put out then fine. This thread is going to the journey thread now.0 -

I've just looked through some of your previous threads - you've been struggling with debt for the last 6 years and now seek to string it out for a further 6. Please, please take the advice of some of the posters on here and think seriously about a DMP. I don't feel your "Light Bulb" moment has quite fully arrived. I do wish you all the best tho'. BiB x
What is it with people reading what they want and being so pushy with their thoughts. Give your advice and then let the poster make their mind up. Don't pressure them into doing what people suggest.
This is going onto the journey thread. I've made my mind up having taken advice from people. This is the best course of action for me and my future plans and timeframes.DF1 -
Superhoop - people are posting and trying to be helpful - all the advice being given is from a place of people wanting to see you clear this debt in the best and most economical way possible, in order to leave you in a position to move on with your life in the fastest timeframe, with your credit file in a place where you will be in a position to look at getting a mortgage in around 6 years (as you indicated that buying a home was something you and your partner wanted to do). I appreciate that you feel your own route on this is best, and a lot of folk have been supportive, wished you luck etc. Nobody wants to see you fail on this - and that is why you are still getting the advice. We see a lot of folk here who arrive with all sorts of ideas of how to clear their debt - from those who are adamant that they should be looking at an IVA, to those who are afraid of anything beyond just plugging away paying minimums because that’s all they can afford but they are terrified of what might happen otherwise, to those who believe that a consolidation loan will solve all their problems (spoiler alert - it almost certainly won’t!) - regardless, we always try to give the best help and advice we can for each individual situation. This journey is going to be a long haul, and tough going for you - fun is going to be in short supply and there are going to be times when you really dislike the way you’re having to do things. You’re going to need support, and support there will be on the diaries board in spades, if you’re willing to accept it. 🙂🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

In my time on these boards, I`ve seen many different attitudes towards re-paying debts, some who insist on paying back everything, those who don`t want to pay anything, and many various other concepts in between.
There are those that stick to rigid budgets, share information with partners, and those who don`t, it`s all really down to the individual how they want to play it, but as this is a public forum, and anyone can post, you are bound to get a plethora of differing views, and questions, when you ask for advice.
It stands to reason you will not agree, or want to engage with, all the points made, as this subject does not have a "one size fits all solution" to it, far from it, the written word is easy to misunderstand, when you are unaware of the context in which it was delivered.
So if posters say something you don`t agree with, its really best to just pass on bye without comment, as they were only responding to your original question anyway.
It`s rare on these boards for someone to be deliberately nasty, most of the time things just get misunderstood, or lost in translation, so please keep that in mind.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
