Thomsonbroadbent Wayleaves

Options
About 3 years ago I was contacted by post regarding low voltage cables on my land and told I could claim a one off payment (around £150) and Thomsonbroadbent take a percentage.  I called them to ask how they knew about the cables and they said they had plans of all the cables and worked with the power network.  I decided not to take them up on their offer as I didn't want to be tied if I wanted to sell the land.  Just before Christmas, 3 years on I received a pack of forms to sign regarding my instruction to them to set up a wayleave.  I emailed to say there was no instruction and they emailed back saying they were attaching the signed agreement which I couldn't view because it kept crashing my email app.  They have now sent me an invoice to terminate the contract and they want £150!!  I've asked them to post me a copy of the agreement so that I can take it to the police.  Anyone got any experience of this company?

Why do you want to waste the police's time with it? If you don't owe the money, don't pay it.

Because it seems like a scam that people could fall for

Which is why he said he had asked sight of the signature so he could then go the police.

You asked why he would go to the police and that is the answer.

He would be going to the police when he had the proof.

    OP
Have they said they'll send you a paper copy of the agreement that they allege you signed?
If they are sending it, wait until it arrives and see what the signature looks like.
If they are trying to con you into paying them money for nothing, there won't be a form.

However, they do seem to be a legitimate company that deals with wayleaves.
  • @pollycat Yes they said they'd put it in post on Thursday, see if it arrives tomorrow.

Let's see what this form says when it arrives. 🤔

  • For anyone still interested the form hasn't arrived yet and it was supposedly posted last Thursday!  I ve emailed Trading Standards and RICS and asked Thomsonbroadbent for a copy via recorded delivery.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that form doesn't exist.
