Downgrading Barclays Avios Plus before choosing reward

I’ve reached the reward bonus (BA upgrade voucher or 7500 Avios) on the Barclays Avios Plus Mastercard. The £20 month fee is quite steep so I’m keen to downgrade to the Barclaycard Avios (free Mastercard) but haven’t yet chosen my reward as i don’t know whether I’ll accrue enough Avios in 2 years to really make the upgrade worthwhile.

Does anyone know whether I need to do this before downgrading or will my option to redeem my reward remain after downgrading? I’ve read the terms and conditions and it isn’t clear.

I believe you need to get your reward voucher before downgrading.  If I were you I'd buy loads of avios to make the most of the voucher:
