Home Office Heating

The no upfront cost option is most likely to turn off all the radiators except in the room(s) you're working. I also live in an old house, but only heat the rooms that are actively being used, and it costs less than £5 a day in gas (even with this week's storm).
Alternatively, have you looked a getting a battery (or using your EV as a battery)? Then you'd be able to charge using the cheap overnight electricity and then use the electricity for spot heating during the day. In the past I've used a small fan heater in rooms which felt particularly cold (mostly the bathroom)/when the central heating wasn't working. No experience of infra-red or storage heaters.1 -
