Wickes bathroom

I'm hoping to get my bathroom refitted this year and have had a quote from Wickes which was lower than I was expecting.
Has anyone here had their bathroom done by Wickes? What was your experience?
I'm getting some quotes from local tradesmen to compare as well.

Who is carrying out the installation? Quite possibly a self-employed local. Check their reputation.1

I have a fussy friend who used them but he wouldn't have stood any nonsense.
As Weird says, depends a bit on the skills of the trades that they employ.
But he recommended me to use them because you deal with agreeing the plan and then leave it to them.
Much easier than dealing with trades yourself.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Wickes have a dreadful reputation for putting things right. Have a Google.0

all wickes fitters are self employed as far as i know. So it will very much depend on who you get.
Maybe see if you can find out who the fitter is before hand and get some examples of there previous work ?1 -

Personally, I would look at buying the actual bathroom suite from someone like Victoria plumbing and then just employ a competent plumber to install it for you, then the same with tiling etc. works out a lot less expensive than paying a ‘bathroom company’ who charge a hefty premium for ‘managing’ the project.0

Our Wickes bathroom was installed by one of their fitters who employed a group of people who did the job which went like clockwork with a perfect job as a result.
MILs bathroom was installed by a one man band Wickes fitter and the result was so bad the whole bathroom had to be ripped out and installed again. She insisted on the fitters we had and the job was perfect when done second time.
Wickes stood by their guarantee however the process was lengthy and took a year to rectify.

We are 14 months since 2 of our 3 bathrooms were refitted. One has leaked from the start and we have plaster coming off the wall and skirting boards damaged and it cannot be used at all. The other can only be very carefully used if you don’t let the water hit the back shower wall as the water comes out the bottom, not an easy task We were told to get the original fitter back as we had used their fitter and the work was guaranteed. He came out twice after much delay then refused to come back as there was and I quote ‘ nothing he could do and you had to expect a degree of water coming out a shower’. After months of pleading with Wickes for help we in desperation called our lawyer and within days of that ( now 8 months after the installation) their remediation team arrived, looked at the showers and said they had been incorrectly fitted and needed to be ripped out and redone. 5 months later we are still waiting for that to be done but at least the work has been agreed. Also one mirror vanity unit has failed and cistern in one bathroom needs refitted So 14 months later we now have an ever increasing lawyers bill to pay which Wickes won’t refund and we are still using our spare room en-suite that wasn’t replaced by wicked so at least we have one non leaking bathroom we can use but no end in site yet. If we hadn’t used a lawyer we are convinced nothing would have been done. It’s been an expensive experience. We were talked into using their fitter by the salesman in order to get their guarantee rather than using our own fitters who did brilliantly with our Wren kitchen. Biggest mistake ever!! We have even written recorded delivery to every one of their exec directors and not one has even acknowledged our letters. We cannot recommend Wickes given our continued frustrations.0

Always depends on how good the sub contractor is.My sister had a bathroom done through Wickes and the workmanship was poor especially the tiling and mastic and Wickes was not interested in helping to get it put right apparently tiling is not part of their warranty so she ended up with a bad tiling job0
