Basket inspiration needed for someone going through Chemo

Apologies if some things have been mentioned before, but when I had chemo I found the following really helped (often the most simple things were the most effective)
Lip balm/Tissues/Wet wipes/Fan.
Non-scented hand cream/moisturiser.
Toffees/sweets/mints (not boiled ones those as mouth can get a bit sore).
Comfortable casual clothes such as jogging bottoms/t-shirts etc - I found it really helped to change into daytime clothes instead of wearing just pjs/nighties all the time as it made me feel less like a patient/ill.
Big/chunky socks.
Nice cordial/squash - need to drink lots of fluids so anything to help make water taste better.
Hats/headscarfs.
Anything to read or listen to (mp3/digital radio/magazines etc).
Biscuits/Crackers - the plainer the better, but could get some posh ones.
New toiletry bag/set - nice to have somewhere to keep all your stuff together/accessible when going into hospital.
Pen/Notebook.

What about ta talking book? Sometimes you don't have the energy to read so a talking book can really help pass the time. Thinking of your mum and of you xxJanuary budget

My Mum has been going through Chemo and was told to have those pineapple chunk sweets, although she has also been having sweets with sherbert in, just to freshen up her mouth.
There are some lovely ideas on this thread.

My mam is going through chemo again(second time, she's had breast, arm and now its in the liver). This christmas I had been making her an organic foods hamper, some luxury food and drink items she wouldn't normally buy herself. Then I found out about the cancer so I added some ginger items.
Ginger is really good when she is feeling sick so I put in ginger ale, a bottle of pink ginger and some green and blacks organic ginger chocolate amongst other things.0 -
i think all these ideas are wonderful and i think u have lots of ideas about how to keep your mums spirits up
can i suggest a chillow http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chillow-Pillow-Soothsoft-Ltd-Single/dp/B0000V0E14/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1199349036&sr=8-1
i get a lot of headaches and is like a cool compress that you can put in your pillow. if my head is bad i put it in the fridge first and its so soothing!!!!! the reviews suggest this might also be good for someone receiving the kind of treatment your mum is going through.
i would also suggest some nice new bedding maybe? i find jersey bedsets the best as they are soft and snuggly and pure cotton but dont need the hassle of ironing! snug in winter, warm in summer. argos have 2 lovely ones in the sale for 12.99 for complete set (pillowcases, duvet cover, and fitted sheet) in either bllue or cream
this might not be suitable for a basket but maybe for mothers day/birthday. maybe with some pjs and a new robe!
it might be nice to create a little bedroom sanctuary for your mum in case she gets tired

when my Mum had chemo for breast cancer she sucked lots of ice-cubes - becuase she said she had a dry, metallic taste in her mouth all the time, plus they are calorie free.
When she lost her hair, she complained a lot about a cold head, the wig was useless apparently at keeping her head warm, so I recommend popping a woolie hat (or whatever is your Mum's taste) in the basket=====================================

hiya, sorry ive not read through replies so dont know if its been suggested. I did one for someone finishing chemo for breast cancer and had very soft hat, scarf, gloves in as well as soem sweets to suck.
What about thiings to help her keep warm, a hat of some sort, some quesy pops (special lollipops for people going through chemo), some beuaty products or a voucher for a beauty treatment to help her feel good about herself and can be used at a later date, a little photo album of all the people/thiings that are very important to her, something that will provide some laughs, maybe some books or dvds?Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

Make her a blanket using no sew technique ot simply blanket stitch 2 contrasting pieces of fleece fabric together. I use wool to stich mine together and my friend uses embroidery floss on hers.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0
