2 for 1 Days out - single tickets instead of return.

I am planning a trip to London later this month and want to use the days out 2 for 1 offer through national rail.
I have bought my train tickets but I have 2 singles instead of a return as it was cheaper. Can I still use the tickets on the 2 for 1 offer? We are travelling on a Sunday and return on the Tuesday - we are planning to visit the tower of London in the Monday - will 2 single train tickets showing the arriving and departure dates work?

This seems to say that with the single ticket the visit to the attraction need to be on the day of travel so travelling on the Saturday and doing the Tower  on the Monday isn’t going to work.

”If you are making a one-way journey or your return ticket is valid for one day, you can use your National Rail tickets to qualify for 2FOR1 and other offers on the day of travel.

If you are making a return journey, you can use your National Rail ticket to qualify for 2FOR1 and other offers on any day on or between your outward and return dates. For example, if you arrived on Thursday and will return on Sunday, your tickets will be considered valid for 2FOR1 and other offers on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. ”

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

It ultimately comes down to the person in the ticket booth at the time... a while back they never used to even ask to see the tickets let alone do any more in-depth checking against the fine point of the rules. They seem to check a bit more recently but still it varies from just holding something that looks like a ticket up to handing it over for them to check.

Under the strict interpretation it wouldn't be eligible, if you still had outwards and inwards ticket you may be able to persuade the person, if necessary, that its a return but its likely the ticket to get to London will be swallowed by the gates when you get off the train.
