Childcare supoort for worker and student worker

Options
Hi,

My son turns 3 in april and whilst they wont get the 30 hours until september (cut off dates) they would technically be legible for the 15 hours that would be available for 2 year olds. I work and my partner is a student social worker who learns on the job and is essentially working full time (maybe not in the technical sense) but through a monthly bursary until September. With that being said the nursery fees are killing us (nearly 800 a month for only 3 days :( ) and we could really do with the free hours. Whilst my partner is for all intensive purposes "working", I dont think it would be classed as that in the application process. Is there any chance we could challange any rejections or any other advice on what we could do?

Thanks,
C

It is not just a case of working you need to meet the income requirement

    Your income

Over the next 3 months you and your partner (if you have one) must each expect to earn at least:

    • £2,167 if you’re aged 23 or over
    • £2,117 if you’re aged 21 or 22
    • £1,557 if you’re aged 18 to 20
    • £1,098 if you’re under 18 or an apprentice

This is the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for 16 hours a week on average.

You can use an average of how much you expect to earn over the current tax year if:

Can your wife not get a childcare grant as a social work student?
  • Hey, i think the problem is that its a bursary she recieves rather than wages so isnt technically income. I can take a look at a childcare grant. Thank you
