Is wool carpet worth the money?

Ditto the moths comments: once they get in, they're impossible to eradicate. Unlike a mothy jumper, you can't stick a fitted carpet in the freezer. Also, in my experience, wool carpet pills very badly in high traffic areas. Having moved from a moth-infested property to one with synthetic carpets, I found the synthetic ones to be much easier to keep looking nice, and they came up beautifully with a carpet shampooer. The wool carpet always looked grubby even after a shampoo, and I was constantly cutting black bobbles off it.1

Moved to a new house and didn't want wool carpet having had moth problems previously but was assured that wool carpets are now treated to be resistant to moths.1 -
We had a man made carpet in our front room for years, then we replaced it with a wool carpet which feels nice and soft. However moths arrived soon afterwards. We spend a lot of time lifting furniture to track them down with the hoover or killing them with the 'electric fly swatter.'1

Thanks for the replies. I’ve been doing a bit of research online and apparently, in the past wool carpets were often treated with formaldehyde or other chemicals to make them moth-proof for a lifetime. Apparently these chemicals are now banned and the moth problem has become much more common in recent years. This would make sense because a lot of people talk about how they’ve had a wool carpet for decades and never had any issues, whereas the people who got them more recently often mention moths eating it.As much as I’d love wool because it will last longer, the potential moth problem would bother me so think I’ll go with the best quality synthetic that I can find.0
