Travel insurance invalid......refund?

I have a packaged bank a/c including travel insurance and 7 weeks ago updated my preexisting conditions online by adding one and for the first time I had to pay an extra sum in addition to my monthly package to include this new one which I had only been told verbally what the problem was and had medicines prescribed for it. However I recently downloaded the NHS app and noticed the condition referred to had been described differently on my medical record. I contacted the insurer and explained this and was told that this meant my whole policy was invalid which was a shock. I explained I'd given the best information I was in possession of at the time of my update based on what I'd been told by doctors and other practicioners and if I hadn't downloaded the NHS app I'd still be none the wiser today.
When you take out travel insurance should you mention what you've been told by the doctor or should you check what's subsequently put on your medical record? Am I entitled to a refund for the additional money I paid to cover the new condition?

In the event of a claim they would go by what’s written on your medical record.
Are they not willing to provide cover for the new label?
for future reference, I have always found the GP fairly responsive when I’ve emailed them to explain I need to know what my record says to ensure my insurance is correct.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -

Insurers haven't said yet I'm waiting to for them to get back to me - within 48 hrs they said. I thought I'd post the issue and might get some ammunition to hit them with but this has become a bit of a can of worms. I've also now noticed what I'd thought was eczema is listed on my record variously as seborrhoeic dermatitis by one doctor, candidal intertrigo by another and tinea corporis by another. I would say you're lucky to have a decent doctor. I've tried emailing mine and got no reply and tried to message them via the NHS app and got no reply to that so far.Obviously I'll use the doctor's records in future though I noticed a very recent condition I know the medical term for as it's mentioned in a letter from a consultant isn't even listed - so what do you do, declare it to the insurer when it's not on your record?

Can you see your medical records in full on the NHS app? 🤔0

Not in full but it lists things like repeat prescriptions, one off prescribed items, current/active medical conditions, test results etc.ccluedo said:Can you see your medical records in full on the NHS app? 🤔
For anything historic it's a bit hit or miss but anything more recent is there. Ultimately it comes down to what's put in the system and an off hand comment or unintended discovery in a test can result in a new condition being added etc even if its not being treated0 -
If your current insurers want an additional premium to cover this condition and it seems a lot, get a quote from an insurer who specialises in pre-existing conditions as it might work out cheaper.1
