As Virgin is a stand alone provider with there own cables changing to a another provider would require installation of new cable possibly installed by Openreach and there is also the possibility of the cabinet not having spare capacity.
How is you area supplied by the other broadband  providers Underground or Overhead?
Do you have a old BT point?
How old is the house?
Straight forward connection times can be upto 14 days but if excavation is required may take longer

Not forgetting that even if you have a old copper line, it maybe removed & a fibre connection installed that will have issues with a falls alarm in any power cuts, as unlike copper which has it's own power, fibre does not.
