Want to set up POA - I'm single, with no siblings, no kids.

Some people I work with have done it quite successfully - not sure how they found the solicitor but in one case it was someone who they had worked with over a number of years in other areas.
Otherwise you can try someone on here although they may have enough work with acting as deputy.

Or contact the SRA to see if they are able to help with narrowing it down? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I’m also in this situation and appointing an attorney is on my “must do” list for this year. I’m resigned to having to appoint a solicitor, but have no idea how to choose one. My IFA suggests a STEP solicitor, but as I understand it, their speciality is estate planning, and TBH I don’t care about protecting my assets after I’m dead! I’ve got some money invested to pay for care; there is a family history of dementia, and I want to be sure my money will be kept safe and used to buy me some comfort and dignity. There is a Society of Later Life Solicitors, so I’m going to look into that. Another consideration is that, whilst I might have a disabling accident tomorrow, it could actually be 20 years or more before I lose capacity, in which case the nice person I choose might have retired and someone I’ve never met would end up doing the job.I’d be very interested in anyone’s experience of using a solicitor, and any pitfalls to watch out for.1

I have just remembered that there is a solicitor in Edinburgh who is also a 'death doula' and assists clients in putting their affairs in order on a number of fronts. I imagine she might be a 'one off' in having that particular combination, but if I (local to Edinburgh) was looking for a solicitor to be attorney, that might be where I'd start.0

I'm in a similar position - single, one sibling who isn't capable, no children no neices no nephews.
The one friend I'd consider asking already has POA for three relatives one she is actively working on and I've seen her go through some tough stuff woth that. So I won't ask.
At the moment my attorney is my Mum, when she goes my cousin has agreed so I'll do a new application, if she pre deceases me then I'll have no other option than a solicitor, but am unsure of being able to afford the fees.0 -
I was a POA for my mum. The other POA being mum’s solicitor. In the event, I managed it all on my own for around 10 years. Mum used the same solicitor who set up her will. The law practice offered a service to persons in the area unable to manage their own affairs.0
