Applied to eon back in October, heard back this week they can't offer anything. In EPC band D and all we need is External wall insulation. Sold wall construction so cavity not suitable. AThey did say you can apply again to other providers but despite External Solid Insulation being on the list I suspect most if not all won't provide due to cost. Anyone had any success on that front or kno wif any of the providers are open to external wall insulation?
  • Updating my post from 5 weeks ago - still nothing. Well... maybe nothing.

I had a missed call from a withheld number about two weeks ago (at 17:10 so vaguely within business hours) - if that was them trying to arrange the next survey and they've not tried again since I'll be annoyed.

With the initial timeline we were given we should have heard from them to at least book the appointment by now (phone screening and paperwork/forms sent by email in late Sept/early Oct).

EWI on a solid brick wall needs to be done right, or you could be storing up problems for the future. Slapping a layer of polystyrene or PUR/PIR boards and overcoating with K-Rend will trap moisture within the wall. With no path to exit via the exterior, the moisture will come through the inside and you'll end up fighting damp.. Materials such as woodfibre & cork boards finished off with a lime render is the preferred method, but is a lot more expensive. Very few EWI companies will have the experience or expertise to do the job properly. If you want some expert advice about insulating older properties, I'd suggest having a chat with someone like Mike Wye first.

Several months after filling in the form on Gov.Uk we have finally been visited by "Laurel" and the next week "Hardy".

We are not on benefits but have a D EPC and band C Council tax.

First bloke said we were eligible for free cavity wall and gave us a quote for loft top-up.

Second bloke said we didn't qualify because not a big enough percentage of the house was cavity wall.
So now he is applying for free loft insulation. He claims he is having to massage the figures to get that??

He also says that we'll have to pay to have trickle vents installed I the old UPVC window frames as ventilation is a requirement of the grant and draughts don't count.

I agree that grants for new windows and doors would be more useful.

Print out a copy of the Building Regulations Part F, wrap it around a length of 4x2 (or a large wet kipper), and apply to the back of his head. Ask him to point to the exact section that mandates trickle vents, and then direct him to sections 1.46 and 1.47 - If you have an old, naturally draughty house, or have alternative means of background ventilation, trickle vents are not mandatory. Heck, the approved document only says "should", not "must" have X, Y, or Z.
    • Should - A recommendation only.
    • Must - A mandatory requirement.

A company phoned me and said they were delivering on the GBIS on behalf of Scottish Power but were not able to for me, I think due to where I lived. And referred me back to Scottish Power.

    So no progress yet.

I'm stuck too. Applied to Octopus, and after chasing and several months the survey was done by Evolve.
Since then it's all gone downhill - agreed a price with Evolve to clear the loft to get ready for installation then nothing.
Phone calls to Evolve result in "He's not available, I'll ask him to call back". Now they don't even answer the phone.
    Octopus aren't getting back either.
    What's next - Trading Standards?

Ring round a few local handyman types and see how much they'd charge to fit a few rolls of loft insulation. May be cheaper than whatever price you've agreed with Evolve.
