Carers allowance not paid for 4 weeks. Possibly due to LEAP PIP payment?

I get enhanced both elements of PIP and my husband is my carer and has claimed CA for the last few years while I've been on PIP. Mid November, I was contacted by DWP out the blue by call and letter saying I was owed money due to a change in case law regarding a previous claim I failed to score an award on. I got the £8000 backpyament on 27th Nov and that was also the last time my husband's CA was paid. PIP advised to us to let ESA know about the payment and that it wouldn't affect my entitlement as it came from an error in law and over £5000 but we still had to let them know. We sent them a copy of the letter and my bank statement showing the payment. We weren't told to inform CA but in hindsight we should have and will be next week when they open back up from the holidays.

We only just noticed today that his CA payment hasn't been in since then as we've been using the back dated money to pay for everything. We've had no letters or any contact from DWP either. PIP and ESA still being paid normally and on time. He usually gets his CA every Monday into his account whereas the ESA and PIP go into mine.

Is this payment most likely what has caused the CA payments to stop? Nothing else has changed in our finances or claim.

I don't know whether it could have affected the CA payment but it shouldn't have, there was no need for you to inform them because other than weekly income, CA is not means-tested.
  • Thanks for your reply. Just trying to rack my brain at what could have stopped the payments as my husband doesn't work at all, he's my full time carer, we've had no extra money other than that LEAP payment and I'm due to be switched over to ADP by April but I didn't think that would cause it especially when the payments stopped as soon as the big back payment came in. Hoping it's just an error and can easily be fixed. I'll worry until the call lines open again!
  • Call carers for 2 reasons, where is my money.
Where is my back pay for carers, who know it’s worth a try.
Looks like he was not paid for over a year, if you back payment was 8k.
I got 3.6k carers back pay as took 13 months for PiP to be awarded.

It's most likely an administrative mix-up but his CA should still be paid. As your husband to give CA a call, they will be open tomorrow.
