Deco p9 - Powerline issuss

Hello everyone,

I'm having some issues with my Deco P9 mesh setup.

I have three Deco units

1. Attached to the router, front of the house, downstairs

2. In the kitchen, back of the house, downstairs

3. In a garden room, approximately x meters from the kitchen deco.

The deco app sees all three, and as you would expect, they chain off each other in the order above. However, Decos 1 and 2 connect using powerline, and Decos 2-3 use WiFi. This is problematic, as the signal is too weak, abs basically it doesn't work.

All have been update, and confirmed to be on the same, most recent, firmware. The entire network had been rebooted a few times. Still the last node refuses to connect with powerline.

As a test, I have an ancient pair of Homeplugs, over 10 years old. These do work between the router and garden building just fine!

Any help much appreciated, right now I've spent £150 and don't have a working mesh, so I'm just using my same old bog standard router WiFi - which is a bit of a shame!

Is your router wifi turned off?

No. Should it be the?! I thought it was fine to run the two in tandem. It works perfectly with the three decos in the house - and means I can migrate over other appliances etc at my leasure

So you're saying that the three decos all work off powerline in the house but move one to the garden and the garden one stops working on powerline?

There can be issues with power line depending on how your circuits are wired and/or using extension leads. Have you tried removing node 2 and seeing if node 3 connects to node 1 using powerline (which it should as the homeplugs work)?

There's possibly a wiring issue between node 2 and node 3 but as you have given us no information on how your circuits are wired its hard to tell....

Yeah, inside the house all three are on powerline. I read on the deco forum (where nobody has answered my thread for days!) that you should configure close by then move to the final location for powerline to work! Seems odd but hey ho.

I haven't tried to bring the summerhouse one in then turn off the kitchen one I can do.

As with most I suspect, the summerhouse has a separate sort of mini consumer unit under the stairs. However, as I said, I have verified the two do connect together as oldskool homeplugs work just fine, irritatingly enough!

In both the homeplugs case and deco case the router unit is plugged into an 6 gang lead, which is unavoidable, in the other cases plugged straight into a plug socket.

  • In terms of the router wifi I have always disabled that in case it confuses the issue.

I have only used Mesh systems where they interconnect via wireless signal.  Is it possible to get one in the house nearer the summer house?

Seems like you've your answer , the wiring is separate therefore powerline can't work (doesn't explain the homeplugs though!)

You could rewire your circuits to get powerline to work but it's impossible to say as I have no idea of your set up

I didn't say move the summerhouse one in then disconnect the kitchen one , I said simply disconnect the kitchen one leaving everything else in place

Have you tried using the homeplugs in conjunction with the mesh system? It's not ideal but seems that it would work better than what you have now.

I don't know how deco connects but could you use the homeplugs to give you the powerline connection in the summerhouse (just a thought)
