  • Well my first attempt at doing the 'big' family dinner went ok, admittedly 40minutes behind schedule, and I forgot to make the stuffing....
mother and siblings seemed happy with their home made truffles and taster bottles of wine(1 each). Think they were a good investment actually, £1 each with a £2 voucher of each full size bottle, Guess what one of the presents next year to family members will be, got till end of march to purchase the wines in, and each discount voucher is separate.
My favourite present was the big woolly dressing gown I am now sat here wearing.

ooo don't know which was my best pressie though, loved them all except silver bag which came with gift receipt so will be changed for similar in less mad colour!

  • For Christmas Day, there's only my mum and I, so we've always tended to go for a rather untraditional Christmas dinner - one year, we did a load of ready-made party nibbles in the oven, for example.

However, over the last year, I've been bitten by the cooking bug, so this year, I decided I'd have a go at cooking something more complicated from scratch. Well, complicated for me :)

We splurged on a piece of beef fillet from M&S, which I roasted in olive oil, a little butter, salt, black pepper and fresh thyme. I also did roast potatoes from scratch. What turned out really well, though - even though I say so myself - was the sprouts. I nicked a TV chef's recipe for sprouts done in cream with bacon lardons, and added three kinds of mushrooms to it. Absolutely incredible!

Sorry if I sound like I'm bloiwing my own trumpet - correction, I am blowing my own trumpet - but I'm just so happy with the way it all went, exactly to time, and the results were entirely edible. Not bad for someone who could burn water 12 months ago :)

Hope everyone's having a really good Christmas!

Hi everyone. Just back from my mums had a lovely if hectic day! Eaten too much as ever and I am going back for more tomorrow (for some reason dad decided he needed 2 turkey crowns so mum is cooking another chrimby dinner tomorrow!)

Attempting to try and calm the kids down and scrape them off the ceiling - not going too successfully so have given up for a minute.

I got a Terramundi pot off OH so have dug out all the coins at the bottom of my bag to start it off.

Enjoy the rest of the day everyone x x

  • evening! How bizarre stunty that you feel ill with turkey but not chicken! Just had a lovely bath with new bubbles and watching stricktly (mums choice) & love actually in a mo which I love, despite seeing a million times! Tummy feeling a bit icky (sprouts?!!) so just sipping wine - nice bottle fo claret which cost £6 but tastes the same as my cheapie Mr T one!!! Tomorrow will be spent going to best mates to swap pressies and have hugs with my goddaughters. The 6 year old gets SO exicted about presents its hilarious!! Never known a child get that excited about them!! Also taking my garmin so that her OH can suss out how to work it & show me! Instruction manuals & dyslexia dont mix!! Hope you all continue to have a nice day...two Christmas dinners is more than I could cope with! What are people up to tomorrow? Have to laugh at all the discussion about shopping - no wonder we're all DFW's!!
