Home insurance accidental damage

Festive greetings to you all,

I recently had a mishap with my laptop which fell off the table damaging the screen casing, bottom casing,  hinges, and top casing, Lloyds accepted my claim and put me through to their 3rd party claims/repair company.

This company told me to back up my data and send them the laptop, the hard drive was 4Tb, I told them I would have to buy a new 4Tb HD to back up the data, so would I get reimbursement, the answer was no, so I said I would return the LT without a HD, they refused this,  they insisted that the laptop had to be returned with a working operating system so they could check/inspect the laptop.

After back and forth disagreements I eventually replaced the HD with  1Tb ssd and reinstalled win 11 OS on the machine.

Yesterday I got a call saying the would repair the Laptop with generic coverings and generic screen etc, this meant losing the identification of the LT brand (HP), which would make it difficult to prove should i pass it on, it will also remove the Prod ID  and Serial number from the bottom of the casing, again making it difficult to prove its originality, also I paid for a 3yr extended warranty with HP which the insurance company claimed would now be null and void, the LT is 14 months old, I have already  paid the £100 access, but I am clearly disappointed at being given generic parts on a branded machine, To me it seems like taking my VW car to a garage and replacing the engine with a Ford because it looks the same.

Any advice is truly appreciated.

Thank you

If you're going to pursue the car analogy, you also wouldn't get any refund on extended warranties etc if you wrote off the car.

If what you're concerned about is the second-hand value, how much difference is it really going to make? Can you demonstrate any material difference in value between a second-hand HP-branded laptop and one of the same spec but with some non-HP bits in it?

@user1977 , is there  difference between a genuine Ferrari and a kit car?
It's  £3000 laptop, so yes I do believe it will make a material difference, the refresh rate for. Start.

Was it worth £3000 before you broke it? What's it likely to be worth whenever you sell it (if you ever do)?

You would lose the details on the bottom cover even if HP parts are used. Our break/fix engineers repair our HP laptops under warranty and get the parts direct from HP. Bottom covers are clean as the same cover can be used on multiple models and there is no way to get the serial on to it.
