The general idea of a car is that you can drive where you want. Probably a good idea to get rid of the Ecoboost before it Ecoboomed. I think a lot of people don't realise how economical and enjoyable a 2 litre diesel can be.
  • It gives me freedom.  My WAV - Peugeot Expert Independence-lets me take my family and our baggage out and about.  My wheelchair fits in nicely but doesn’t use all the space.  The ramp’s great for heavy items.  My other car - Honda Jazz - fits into small spaces and is a great about town car.

My DH’s Peugeot Partner is a great workhorse and fits in huge amounts.  If I could actually drive it I would, but alas, a poorly healed ankle fracture means that I’m limited to automatics.

Just thinking about the cars that stood out...

Fiat Maria Weekend 1.9JTD.  Picked up with a mere 173,000km on the clock (engine had just been replaced because the cam belt hadn't been changed and had snapped).  Only had one key - ran it for five years before selling to my tame mechanic for €1,000 with just under 400,000km on the clock.  Just run in.

I'd a Fiat Marea saloon 1.9JTD which i have fond memories of.  I took it as a trade in against some other car i was selling.  I think it stood me £90.

I bought a set of genuine Fiat wheel trims off ebay for a few pounds, gave it a good polish, pushed out some of the dents and touched in the bodywork.

I think i did about 20K miles in it.  Very comfy, never let me down and did about 47mpg.  Sadly tin worm got to the chassis and it ended up being scrapped.

Bought this November 2022 and absolutely love it!

Fast, characterful, handles great.  Real sense of occasion driving it too.  It puts a smile on my face even driving it to the shops.

Somebody ticked most of the options boxes too when it was new.

Downsides - 20mpg and requires super unleaded.  Big maintenance costs - front discs for example are around £500 for the pair and pads another £180 or so.

But i dont begrudge it a penny of it :)

I sold this to buy the M2.  I loved it but it was a garage queen, whereas the M2 is a daily driver.

I loved the fact it was so small and low compared to modern cars, and that it was a real head turner (among petrol heads at least!).  A big straight six 3.0 litre up front too, so a lovely note off it when driving it.
