Yes we know (and the MSE guide is fairly awful, badly out of date and sadly some of it is so bad it costs people money...) but my advice on 29th was to immediately put in an online appeal, and I said 'NOW'.

Two days have passed (because it's now 31st) and still no appeal put in using the website shown on the back of the PCN.  Please do that now - of course NOT ticking 'driver'.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Unfortunately it’s saying I’m unable to do that. Presumably because I missed the 28 day cut off. I emailed them yesterday as advised by the other poster re-iterating that I posted an appeal on 19th Dec (1st class only I’m afraid). I didn’t see your original reply to my post until yesterday which is why I missed the 28 day cut off.
  • Please delete those documents immediately and repost the PCN without all the sensitive information that you displayed (viz the PCN reference number and your vehicle number that is clearly visible despite you going over it lightly with a marker pen)!  When you repost, please show the date of the PCN which is not sensitive and we need to know.  We don't need the reminder, just one copy of the PCN, front and back.

I've asked for them to be deleted asap. I'll repost the scan of original PCN (with sensitive info removed).
  • Remember to leave all dates showing
  • Here is redacted scanned PCN notice with dates.

Interesting that the 'pay by' date is 31st which suggests they are in fact calculating the 28 days with two extra days added for service.  Yet the appeals page says you are too late.

Let's hope they are honest enough to admit that your letter arrived in time.  If they do give you a POPLA Code, then you win.  It was always this easy.

If not, you'll have to win it in court in 2024 or later (easy enough to defend, but more hassle than this easy to appeal one needed to be).

  • I've heard or received nothing back from my email to them asking to confirm they received my letter dated 19th Dec. Should I call them up to query it? Or just wait until I hear from them next? I'm assuming the next step from them will be to threaten further action if not? Thanks for all the help so far by the way, I am now checking this forum regularly so will respond straight away from now on.

Of course you don't call a parking firm, ever!

  • Just received this email from Brittania (and got a letter saying the same as well). So they have recognised my appeal by the looks of it?

    Good Afternoon,

Thank you for your email, your appeal has been logged to our system on 21/12/2023.

Once an appeal has been received, the Parking Charge Notice (PCN) and subsequent charges are put on hold. Someone will review the machine data, where applicable, and take into consideration what you have said. A decision will be made and sent out to you, with any payments and dates being applicable from the date of the appeal decision notice.

Your appeal response will inform you if your PCN has been cancelled, reduced, or declined. If you are unsuccessful with your appeal and you appealed the PCN within the 14 day discount period, you will be given another 14 days from the date of your appeal decision to pay the lower amount of the PCN, If you did not submit your appeal within the discounted period you may be required to pay the full amount of the PCN.

If unsuccessful with your appeal you will be given a full 28 days to appeal to an independent appeals service called POPLA.

We do have an internal 28 day deadline in which to reply to appeals, so please regularly check your spam/inbox for correspondence.

    Kind Regards,
