The letter does say a police report has been filed. Might not be true though.Car_54 said:
The OP doesn't know that. A simple mis-read is more likely.Keep_pedalling said:This appears to have been reported to the police so I would also make a police report that a car with your cloned number plate has been used to commit a crime.
And if he does, his reg. number will be on the database and he'll find himself being stopped quite a lot.0 -
True, obviously state it wasn't you first, I'm just thinking if the OP wants to close this down asap, stating that they've never been there and asking for a colour image could be a quick way to immediately disprove it wasn't them, especially if it's a different car or colour, which would be likely if it was a misread number plate, might be less likely if it's a clone as cloners will generally try and clone the same model and colour, but it could be a different shade of red or blue for example.Car_54 said:
And for that reason I wouldn't ask for images: that implies some doubt. Just tell them it wasn't you, never been there, etc.Veteransaver said:Ask them for colour image, if it was a cloned or misread plate then colour / model etc may not even match your car which makes it easy to disprove.
Remember it's up to them to prove it was you, so don't bother with Google location data etc as that proves nothing anyway.
The fine company could even recheck it themselves
Or just possibly it was actually the OPs car and someone else was using it.0 -
I meant "doesn't know" it's been cloned.Veteransaver said:

I presume you are the keeper of that car?
So this could be a symptom of a bigger potential problem - cloning.
I'd definitely be replying, and saying "It definitely wasn't my car, as it was nowhere near the site at the time, so I have no way of knowing who the driver in question was." - and ask for images. It may well be obviously not your car in the images, and you can then prove this.
Saying "My phone says..." is pointless - it might have been your friend driving, or you may not have had your phone with you.
Ignoring it is the absolute worst thing to do. It won't go away.1 -
If you can provide proof of the car being somewhere else at the time of the alleged offence, make sure you get it and send it with your reply. Also give it to the police when you report this.Mildly_Miffed said:I presume you are the keeper of that car?

ETA: May have messed this post up, the above comment is intended for the OP - I was agreeing with Mildly_Miffed's post.0 -
Not had this issue, but tickets and claims for parking on a regular basis.I love my Bymiles tracker. 24/7 365 days a year it tracks my car, where and when and max speed per journey. Its funny how quickly they back down oncce I provide a screen shot of where my car was at the time.I only provide it if they play nice.If they are aggressive on contacting them, I say ok all good see you in court Im looking forward to it.Please note the vehicle is regestered as disabled and displays a blue badge.Touch it and the court cost will be in the thousands.

Maybe so, but that would also be a valid defence for the OP! The onus is on the creditor to prove that they've found the actual driver. I don't think this is a scenario where they can just pin it on the registered keeper.Mildly_Miffed said:

Would be interesting to see what the courts view would be towards you not providing information that would have saved wasting courts timeBigwheels1111 said:Not had this issue, but tickets and claims for parking on a regular basis.I love my Bymiles tracker.
Just provide evidence regardless to save yourself wasting time and resources unnecessarily

Indeed. You can win the case and have costs awarded against you if you have done anything that doesn't aid a swift resolution. County Courts are getting tough on this to try and stop unnecessary court hearings.LightFlare said:
