Were EI Systems not a PC World own brand or something?

EI Systems laptops are quite well built and are worth the money. They have always been cheap but i have friends who have had them for years and never had any problems. Dell on the other hand i use them at work and im not over keen on them the IT guy comes in at least once a week to fix one of the dells we use. Id go for EI systems if i was you.Don't listen to the bad things about Vista its the best
Just because it's free don't mean it's good
Ditch Norton Now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :wall:
Just Because you read it some where don't mean it's right0 -
thanks, might pop into pcworld tomorrow and have a look. dont have a laptop, still live at home with parents, use their computer but think that the money spent will be worth it and last me a long while and be beneficial rather than fighting over the computer. just need to decide which laptop to go for!Weight Loss - 102lb0

PCWorld have 2 main 'own brands' - Packard Bell & Advent, EI is the even cheaper 'own brand' though it is occasionally for sale in supermarkets as well. The build quality is not great, especially on desktops, but you will find that laptops are about on par with any other cheap brand, simply because generic laptop components are generally much the same. If it has Vista installed make sure you have a minimum of 1Gb RAM, preferably more as you will almost certainly find that they are 'maxed out' to start with - Vista is very slow on lower spec computers. The corners are also often cut in areas like the power supply, the screen and the chassis. As with any branded system, make sure you create the restore disks as soon as possible, don't rely on the 'hidden partition' for recovery - if/when the hard drive fails - often because the power supply fails - you can replace the drive & use the restore disk - if you haven't created them then you need to buy a new copy of Windows as well as the drive. If you cannot afford more then they are as good as any, but I would certainly never consider buying one, wait for 3-4 months for Vista SP1 and in the meantime save a bit more cash.0
