New driver insurance

Hello everybody
My son passed his driving test at the beginning of the month and we are now looking to get him insured to drive his own car. It's a modest one, a 1.2lt Nissan Note, 2014 model.
All the prices we are being quoted are in the region of £3k!
That's with me and my wife as named driers, both with clean licences and a black box.

Is that just what it costs or is there a way to bring down the cost to an affordable level?

Thank you

Have you tried without yourself and your wife named on the insurance? I found when I passed in 2015 I drove a 1.2 Corsa 2004 plate my insurance was £3000 with my mother on the insurance and when I took her off it went down to £1700

I think it's really unusual for an experienced driver to increase the insurance cost but taking one of the additional drivers off might help.

That said insurance costs have rocketed in the last couple of years so it may well be what it is. I'm thinking that once my son passes we'll have fun but because we live in a village which is very poorly served by public transport we may have no real choice about his running a car because getting to and from work is almost impossible by said poor public transport.

I would recommend trying a different car. Try a 2007 Ford Fiesta 1.25 and Skoda Fabia 1.2 (60hp) to see if the car is the problem.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

That is usually only the case if the additional driver has a poor driving history (points or multiple claims etc). For the vast majority as long as the driver is not in the 70+ age bracket and with a good history it will reduce the premium.

The car is a factor (popular cars with teens, even if low insurance groups can be higher prices)
Location is another as is where the car is kept. On the road can be cheaper than on a driveway in some locations
Occupation, some jobs (e.g. motor trade related) can be high, try some other job descriptions which are realistic
Adding older experienced drivers with good records
Comprehensive is often cheaper than TPF&T
Mileage, both too low or too high can affect the price

Unfortunately prices are high at the moment.

I doubt a boy racer would even have heard of a Nissan Note...lol.
