@PipneyJane, what a brilliant pic- and incidentally, can I just add that you look blooming! You don't look in the slightest like you're even under some stress, let alone the physiological and emotional stress you are actually under... perhaps it's the joy of jeans plus a cardigan you knitted yourself...
And thankyou for posting the pic for that too- some years ago an acquaintance *gave* me her 'Audrey in Unst' as she'd spent a year knitting it in a gorgeous eau-de-nil merino, only to decide after finishing that she didn't like the style on her, so she gave it to me... I love the yoke design and the colour she chose, but it is a weird shape- which yours isn't!! - hers has very very long ribbed cuffs on the sleeves and much much bigger puffs at the top, and the sleeves weigh as much as the body and drag the whole thing down... I've been pondering what to do with it, and now, seeing yours with so much better sleeves, I think I might just rip off the sleeves and knit my own short sleeves on, and maybe also re-knit the very long waist-ribbing which is looser and heavier than I think is right. It will mean a lot of fiddling and knitting for me, but it's unwearable as-is, so... but at least now I know what the pattern is2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Has the cardigan been washed? Audrey’s sleeves are knitted on, top down. They really didn’t sit right until I washed and blocked it. Your friend must have decided to do something different to the pattern, because once you’ve knitted the underarm sleeves, the most the pattern tells you to pick up is 39st on each side of the shoulder seam. (I just checked my copy of the pattern.)

Bit late to the discussion but I wanted to say, in addition to looking at vintage reproduction patterns have a look for a Claire Schaeffer jacket pattern. Over the years she has done a lot of fitted tailored jackets and includes all the courure sewing tips in her patterns. That's the sort of thing that would make it look an authentic 'classic' You can usually find them on ebay.
Plus it would keep you busy for a long time - very good hobby value for money
ETA Sew Direct is OK but I find Jaycotts quicker to deliverIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!7 -

But I shall unravel and use the body of the Audrey, re-doing the waist-ribbing and the sleeves- I have a sleeve I often use, knitted-on, that gives a little puffed-shoulder, and then a full upper sleeve knitted into a deep box-pleat, with a 25-row ribbed cuff to just above the elbowI think that would work well with this cardigan...

sorry I have been AWOL for some time, so pleased to see you are feeling better @PipneyJane and love the pic of your cardigan. And sorry to hear about your work role having been dispensed with @Laura_Elsewhere, that must be hard after doing it for so long.I have been reading along but not finding time to post, I have had a builder in and it's been very distracting. In very thrifty style I decided to rescue a much-loved pair of curtains, they were custom made for my last house and the only ones I brought with me. They lived in a black bag for a while before I realised they were a perfect fit for my living-room. They are a sort of embroidered fabric so not easy to wash. I don't like the chemicals used by dry-cleaners and I have little faith in them, plus it would have been very expensive, so I decided to wash them - one at a time - in the bath. The colour of the water astonished me, I don't smoke! - but they had been hung at a window facing a busy road in the last house. The curtains came up well but the linings are quite faded and stained. I unpicked the lining on one so I could soak it in bleach and wash it separately. Let's just say that after unpicking, washing, pinning and restitching it I decided the second curtain would be just fine as it is!The combination of lining and curtain was too much for my temperamental electric machine, so Granny's Frister & Rossman saved the day, however even that couldn't cope with the thickness of the header tape as well so I ended up stitching it back by hand. It was worth it, I'm really pleased now the curtains are up but it's reminded me how I loathe dealing with large quantities of fabric.Very impresed with your sewing plans Pip, keep us posted - I ended up filling the sewing room with furniture/pictures/general toot while the work went on and now I need to excavate it again.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Cup of Tea? Piece of flapjack? I have some good news to report: Monday’s PET scan showed no active lymphoma! I have a couple of tiny, residual spots on my liver but, otherwise, all is clear. Yay!
I still have two more rounds of chemo to go, and probably another PET scan, but all is good.
Also, DH has a conditional job offer from a government agency. It does require security clearance, hence me being vague and it being conditional, however it is permanent and it’s the perfect job for him. Needing clearance, he won’t start for several months.

@PipneyJane, oh what brilliant wonderful news!! Hurrah for modern medicine, both for the treatment that has been so successful (so quickly!) and for the scans that can give you that reassurance rather than just having to live waiting to find out if you get more ill...
REALLY good news. Enormous smile here! xxx
And of course we understand your being vague about Mr Pip now working for The Ministry. 'nuff said!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
