A lot of the Miss Silver books and others by Patricia Wentworth are available on Kindle Unlimited if you have itIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!8

I like Miss Silver- she is wrongly dismissed as a Marple-clone, but the characters and books and plots are very different- both good cosy reading!

@annieb64 I'm not suprised it took you a while to find the books 2nd hand - there are quite a number!@maryb sadly I don't have Kindle Unlimited - though I shall look out for a free trial. I'll have to, (old style), borrow what I can from the library.Right - no more faffing about. I'm going to get the flannelette dyed today!Fashion on the Ration 2025 37/667

Right - not something that was around in WW2 - beanbag beads? I suspect I'd have used a fleece (or two!) well-scoured, and the finished item would just have been - lumpy & sheepy - but shall I cough up some coupons for a big (4 cu ft) bag of beads? I found a "Cars" duvet cover, 100% cotton, in decent shape at the recycling warehouse last week & knew DGS would kill for it, or something made from it, as he's not in a full-size bed yet & he's mad about Cars in the way that only a 2 y.o. can be. To preserve L1ghtning McQueen's shape as best I could, a child-size beanbag chair seemed a good option, so I've made one this morning. There's enough fabric cut off the ends for a gym bag, too, if he needs one when he goes up to pre-school next term. What d'you think; should I charge myself some coupons for the beads?Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)8

Mind you, I'm not sure a modern beanbag chair would really work with the heavier weight of the actual beans, or rice or wheat, or whatever; I don't know what the coupon-cost of the filling would be...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Just a thought: beans aren't fabric and don't appear to have been rationed, so perhaps thriftwizard can get away with that one, as they are (obviously) damaged ones that can't be planted and are too old and dry for consumption?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

We're all doing this for different reasons- for me, I would count the modern beanbag-filling because it's using resources and synthetic ones at that, and that's my own personal driver, to reduce how much my buying causes new things to be manufactured- but others are doing it to save money, or to change their relationship with clothing, or build their self-esteem with better-quality clothing, or make more space in the spare-room wardrobe by limiting their clothes-buying, or, or, or...!
Everyone does it from a different angle...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

"Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

It was in the ceilings, too, as we discovered when ours fell on us in bed in about 1986... one way to get me out of bed on a Sunday morning!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7
