@Nelliegrace those vintage handkerchief patterns are very familiar from times I’ve done a batch of ironing for my grandparents and parents! I wonder where they are from?Fashion on the Ration

The sender had opened a small corrugated cardboard box, turned it inside out and stuck it back together to reuse it. I must put it in the salvage.Fashion on the Ration

1940s cricket pullover knitting patterns.
I like to find handkerchiefs with patterns similar to these CC41 Utility from the 1940s. They are British, Northern Ireland or possibly Lancashire. The proper hems show the quality.

Hi all, sorry I have been mia for quite a while
. I have been busy trying to sort out the house and garden while also watching the Olympics and Paralympics
. The only thing I have to declare is a summer quilt bought in the sales a few weeks ago. I have checked the coupon list but there doesn't seem to be anything for bedding etc so I am going with 8 m of non wool fabric which I hope is ok, so 16 coupons, 75.5 - 16 = 59.5 remaining. If this is ok with everyone else I am happy to use them as I still have the other quilt but it was too warm being a winter weight. I am still looking for a pair of comfortable waterproof walking boots but I anticipated I would need more underwear by now but so far it is doing ok although I have had to bin a few pairs of knickers I still have enough. I have been working my way through these since 2020 along with socks which just goes to show I had more than enough then
. Clothes wise I have also sent a few t shirts to the facric recycling and a couple of other things to the cs that just didn't fit right but again I had more than enough to get by. Some t shirts have been relegated to the decorating / gardening pile but I still have enough decent ones for when I venture out in public
. I have a wedding to attend at the end of the month and initially I thought I would need a new outfit but I have found nothing either in the shops or online that I liked enough so I am investigating shopping from home
. I am sure I can find something suitable as it is a low key wedding, no hats
which I was sad about as I do like an excuse for a hat or even a fascinator
@PipneyJane so glad you have come through another visit to the hospital and you managed to get to the cricket. I love the aran you are working on, my dMum was a great aran knitter, I still have 3 cardigans she made for me, at least 25 years ago, that are still going strong and so warm in the winter
@Nelliegrace those hankies are lovely, I wish I could find those as OH loves a good hanky and they would make great stocking fillers
Right as it has stopped raining I am heading out into the garden to do a bit more chopping back.
Take care everyone

The proper hems show the quality. My mum gave us special dispensation to use our sleeve if the choice was between Dad lending us his hankie and using our sleeve (because a paper tissue was unavailable). Mum loathed washing Dad’s hankies…..he never quite escaped having the dubious pocket contents of a small boy which, combined with working in factories, made for very disreputable hankies.✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

That sounds grim @florianatwobob. There wasn’t even the option of soft loo roll, because there was either Izal Medicated or even worse paper at school.
I had to resort to a solution bleach this week when DH produced the blood stained handkerchief from a fall at a football match at the end of last season.
An elderly lady recalled that every year, she and her sisters were handed a present from the Christmas tree, from their grandmother. It was a sweet wrapped in a pretty, handmade handkerchief, tied up with a new hair ribbon.9 -
I like the idea of wrapping a present in a handmade handkerchief tied with a hair-ribbon!
I must make myself some new handkerchieves so maybe I should hand them over to Mr E to use for wrapping anything he may get me
(We normally don't bother wrapping presents, just keep them under Xmas tea-towels and trust each other not to peek!)2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
