Mine is books too. Reference books. Lots of them! Novels sit firmly in the book club choices space, as it makes me read different things. Mostly good, but not all are.
Fingers crossed it all goes through seamlessly on the BTLSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

I’m away from home at the moment doing a walking challenge. Have heard that the BTL should complete on 19 April. Delays have been due to enquiries and miscommunication between the legal teams which has been frustrating, but at least there’s an end in sight!
Won’t know the exact figure remaining on our mortgage for a few weeks but hopefully c. £40k. DH still looking for work but I’m not home until Monday so haven’t been bugging him as apparently he’s been working in our garden 😊Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings2 -
We have exchanged on the BTL sale. Solicitor has sent details of the net proceeds which are £222,600 exactly £100 more than we purchased it for 6 years ago. There is £250 being held back by buyers solicitor in case the management charge is extra. Should get that back at some stage and hoping we won’t incur another £40 TT fee.Bit fed up that there were some extra charges last minute including a FENSA indemnity for the replacement patio doors (£45) and £90 plus VAT as we are exchanging and completing within 5 days. Probably in the T&C’s but still a bit galling that it popped up on the completion statement today.DH is standing by to pay chunks off the mortgage once the proceeds are received on Friday. Remaining balance will be around £38k as we will incur fees for overpaying more than the allowed 20%. A fee we are prepared to swallow to feel a bit better about our situation. In other news, my workplace (of 4.5 months) will be announcing a consultation for admin staff in the coming weeks. Could not make it up!Cross-stitch WIP: Fiver Friday challenge 2025 founding member 😊 Read 25 books in 2025 11/25 Currently reading The Cliff House by Amanda Jennings3

Good news on the btl - hope the consultation goes ok abd good OH gets a new job asapDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Something tells me that's going to be the best OP on MFW today 🤣! Well done on getting the sale across the line and fingers crossed all works out with your jobMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
Cleared 🧚♀️🧚♀️🧚♀️!!! In 5 years, 1 month and 29 days
Total amount repaid: £72,307.03. £1.10 repaid for every £1.00 borrowed
Finally earning interest instead of paying it!!!2 -
Thank you @South_coast!
Well! Another £99,412.18 paid today as well. Think there's a single transaction limit of £99,500. We still have £24,433.93 left to pay from the proceeds, but DH was waiting for me to get home in case we wanted to round it up
Have already had a revised monthly payment advice through on email

Wonderful overpayment!Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0
