I purchased a car from a dealer in January 2023. In October 2023 the car failed and to this day is still in the garage. The main dealer advising they cannot get the parts etc. The car has 2 outstanding recalls. 1 for software and 1 for a battery issue recall. The fault the car has is in respect to these recalls. The recalls were on the car prior to me purchasing it. Recalls were placed on car September 2022.
if I had known about this I wouldn’t have bought the car as reading through forums etc the wait time can be up to 9 months for a repair to be made!
where do I stand with rejecting the car to the finance company this far down the line?

Were the recalls disclosed at the time of purchase?

Contact the finance company as its their car. They can exert a lot of pressure on the dealership.
Also, speak to a solicitor RE: rejecting the car as "not fit for purpose".0 -

Any proper dealer would sort out recalls before selling.
I had a recall notice shortly after buying my last car, dealer advised they were aware of the problem and it had already been rectified when they serviced the car and updated the ECU before handover to me.0 -
Unfortunately I didn’t know until I booked the car in for a service and was advised there were 2 recalls outstanding.0

Have the dealer given you a decent courtesy car?
If not then you are paying for a car you don't have have, if you do have a courtesy car then that could be to your advantage (no use or miles on yours) and at least you have use of a car.
But if any courtesy car is significantly different in spec or value then you do have cause to complain, and you have decent rights if it is on finance.
I assume the car is completely undrivable?0 -
Yeah the car has a battery failure! The dealer gave me a courtesy car which isn’t electric and certainly wouldn’t be the monthly cost I’m paying for my PCP0

You need to formally complain to the dealer and get the finance company involved for good measure.
The dealer should at least put you in an equivalent (electric) vehicle whilst they sort this out.
There's a glut of EVs sitting on forecourts at the moment!0 -
So where do u think I stand in being able to reject the car? The faults were on car prior to me purchasing and I wasn’t informed of them ?0
-
Just because the recall was before you purchased it doesn't necessarily mean that the fault was present before you purchased it. They may have been, but they may very well not have been0
