Is there any payment protection buying Used Items on ebay?

Options
Hi
Im looking to buy a Used Item on ebay. Its an electrical item and fairly high value (£500). If I buy it and it is faulty, am I able to get a refund, chargeback or similar? Or with Used Items is it very much caveat emptor?
Thanks

I think if you want consumer protection against faults etc., then buying new from a retailer is the best approach - eBay may be cheaper, but that means less protection.

The item listing on eBay should detail the item condition.  If the item is described as fully functional but is faulty when you receive it, then my understanding is that you would get a refund through eBay.

On ebay you have a limited time protection- but unless listing states clearly that there is a warranty or guarantee- then it is best to assume you are on your own after 30 days.

Basically if the item doesn't arrive or arrives damaged/broken or not as described n the listing you have 30 days from the date of receipt to open a claim. After that you are on your own.

If you buy from a business seller on ebay you also have some further ways of getting recourse as a business seller is required to add their address to the listing, so if you screen shot all that you have a chance of going to small claims against them, but you would have much more difficulty for a seller registered as a private seller.

if it is, open a return but make sure you choose item 'defective' or 'not matching description' as the reason
