CIFAS SAR response 'issued' but how long to receive?

I filled in a SAR yesterday and am surprised to see that clicking into the status URL it seems to be ready, 'We have completed your request and have issued our response to you which you should receive within 5 business days.'

I'm pretty sure they send the response via email, so how long does this actually take as I don't get why it can be 5 days to arrive if the response is issued. I expect it would be in my inbox?

I received one within 24 hours.

  • Thanks, so 24 hours after you saw that status update saying the report was ready? I didn't even get an email with the status update, I just happened to see it after re-reading the confirmation email yesterday and seeing a tracking link which I clicked on. So I'm a little confused in general.

Their offices now seem to be closed until Jan 2nd so if it has already been 'issued' as of today would it be automatically emailed to me before then? I don't understand how it can take up to 5 days regardless if it's been issued, it's just an email?
  • You're reading too much into it.

5 days allows for alternative delivery methods, QA and any errors.

'Issued' just means, 'yup, pinged that into the system, job's a good'un'.

Don''t get hung up on the vernacular.
