EDF Don't Do Themselves Any Favours

Hi,

Having left EDF, I'm waiting for my balance to be repaid.  Final bill generated on the 2nd Dec.  Money not received on 15th (10 working days).  Called to ask where my money was and it was just sitting on my account.

Asked for my £30 for not getting it to me in 10 working days.  Told to complain to the Ombudsman!  Asked to raise a complaint with EDF first and finally they add the £30 to my account.  I then get told that it will take 14 working days to get sent the money!!!  Looks like I will be getting another £30 for not having paid me the first £30 in 10 working days.

EDF don't do themselves any favours do they.

If you are leaving EDF, it's worth keeping a close eye on the time it takes them to refund your balance.

  • They have always struggled with things like that, they have five more days to generate my final bill (I moved to Octopus), I do not suspect that it will be generated in time as it took them four weeks to send me an email about my move, which was four weeks after I had already left.

I'm currently in the process of moving electricity only from EDF to Octopus (can't move gas due to ongoing issue i've had with recently replaced gas meter overcharging). I've no idea if they're going to manage to do that without any issues.

I would suspect the move will go fine, but your final bill will be late, which seems to be the pattern on here when people move from EDF.

I was very surprised with the speed I got my final bill.  I moved to Octopus on the 29th November and got the final bill on the 2nd December using the reading that I had given to Octopus (manual read not smart meter).  I'm on the new Kraken based EDF billing system if that makes any difference.

It's for Gas only not Electricity.  Electricity was with BG.

My EDF account is still on the legacy 6-month cycle, with the next bill due end of January, so I'm hoping it will all be sorted by then.

I'm less worried about billing - that will sort itself out eventually - but hoping the two smart meters continue to send data. No reason why they should not, but...

When I moved from EDF to Octopus there was a gap at the start where it took Octopus five days to start getting the data, but when it started showing in the account it went back to the first day I was with them, other people seem to experience something similar, so hopefully you will be fine.

Almost certainly it makes a difference.  Probably a massive difference.
