My father passed away this year and had been receiving payment under AFCS. I completed the forms I was sent when I informed them of his death and it seems my mother is entitled to some payment. However the amount they have awarded her is about 3 times what my father received. It included a war widows pension, a supplementary pension and an age allowance for over 80 yrs old. Does this seem right?

Is this just her first payment? If so, then it may include some arrears, hence the higher amount.
But if AFPS have given her ongoing total pension rate as 3 X your dad's rate then no, it doesn't sound right. Definitely needs querying.1 -
Thank you. No there is talk of a back payment on top of this amount. In all conscience I think I will have to query it. I wondered whether to wait and see how much actually arrives first.1

Please don't leave it too long - if it is wrong (and I really can't see any good reason for a widow's pension being 3 X the original) then AFPS will have to recover any over-issue.
