Hi all. Travelling through France/ Belgium/ Holland/ Germany next summer and I was wondering if anyone could recommend an all in one tag for my journey? Thanks.

I travel through all of those countries regularly.

Only France has tolls for cars.

I pay using a credit card.

Not all parts of the French motorways are toll (Péage).
Yes, the large stretches between cities generally do charge but some shorter motorways and those around the cities are usually free.

If you are travelling from the Calais direct into Belgium on the A16/E40, along the coast east past Dunkirk, that part of the motorway is free (and full of eastern European lorries)

You can also do the A16 and N225/A25 to Lille and on into Belgium and I'm pretty sure that is also free.

I seem to think the only routes out of Calais that are toll are the A26 south, which is toll as soon as you get on it.
And the A16 west, but the first toll booth is just past Boulogne, so you can drive there before you start paying.

And as Iceweasel says, the other countries you mention are all free.
  • Beware of EPC collecting for supposed unpaid Portuguese Tolls.

I have just received a Penalty Charge Notice  from EPCplc. The holiday was in July 2019, and I've received the notice today Dec 2023.

Original tolls amounted to £10.20, which were paid when the transponder downloaded the info to the car hire firm.
However, EPC added Admin fees £23.88, and Admin Cost £66.18. the total became £100.26 !!

I followed the advice of  Freewheelin_Franklyn  and checked on the "Pagamento De Portagens" website for any outstanding tolls for the dates quoted by EPC, and there were NO outstanding toll payments.

It's absolutely shocking that a legitimate firm such as EPCplc can send out demands for payment incorrectly, and top up the amount
    with their "charges".

Surely, this is illegal, and needs to be stopped. I wonder how many people have paid such demands in error, because they couldn't do the checks needed? It is pure robbery, obtaining money under false pretences.

Thanks to this forum, I won't be paying.
  • Another recommendation for the Emovis tag when travelling on the French autoroutes.

Just had a look at the Emovis tag, idea seems sound but when there are additional costs for the item plus usage I'm not sure it's something I can justify. Never really had any delays at tolls paying by card and now that all are contactless I think there is probably less need for a tag compared to a few years ago when you would have needed change to pay.

We’ve seen a fair few queues and tag unquestionably is more convenient. Especially if you are solo in a RHD car!

Always use Emovis if you are travelling twice a year or more there is no monthly charge, you only pay 14euto for a year and travelling through the 30km lane is so easy…would not consider any other method
