Dumb clothing labels

There's a certain shop of knitwear that overall I really like... they're really high quality, expensive but not designer expensive and often have a wide range of colours available.

One of the downsides however is they have a vast number of models with fairly small differences between them... one may be slightly slimmer than the other, or a V neck may have a deeper or shallower V compared to another model. Makes it fairly hard to know which one to buy if you cannot make it to their store.

What gets my goat though is their labels in no way identify the model of jumper, so you try their 5 turtle necks on and find the one thats great on you. A couple of months later you decide it'd be great to have it in a couple more colours but can't remember the name of the model... nothing on the label will tell you or them.

Their Live Chat folks say it's impractical to do as they have too many models. Obviously BS as whilst they have a lot its tiny compared to the likes of M&S who do manage to put a model number on each label.

So another lunch going to their shop and two assistants arguing over if its a ABC or a BCD and finally after all that saying they didn't have either in Black in stock.

Model number in M&S means nothing. A size 14 sweater or pair of trousers in one colour will be different in size to size 14 in another colour.

I've been able to use the model number from the tag to pull up the item on their website and then change to different colour/size etc.

That does sound frustrating! Is there a barcode or tag that's removed and might have information on? Snapping a photo of that (if there is one) might be worthwhile. Even if it's just a barcode, you'd hope the shop could scan the photo and be able to tell you... But depending on their till system even that might not work!

If you buy in store then the swing tag sometimes has a barcode on a sticker, sometimes they just scan the display item's code and the one they give you is missing the sticker. Never seen anything on the swing tags from their mail-order.

If you buy from third party stores then they normally have the sticker or some seem to have added their own swing tag with a barcode etc but its rarely cheaper to buy from third parties and most only stock a tiny percentage of the range.

Yes, you can buy the item again but in a different colour it often doesn't fit.

Different batches are made in different factories, sdometimes different countries, si sizing is variable.

You only need to read reviews to find complainta about sizing.

I bought two pairs of trousers from the same range, same size,  at the same time, in different colour. One pair fitted, one pair too small.

A separate set of issues but at least you can find the model... this adds the complexity that you don't even know the model to then have the problem of one batch being different than the next (they only have a single factory in Scotland)
