    The committee meet about every six weeks and they met last week. If you are anticipating them cutting interest rates in Feb I think you will probably be disappointed, despite the inflation headlines today.

    With a higher National Living Wage on the horizon in April 2024. Still some factors to be worked through.

    It's still more or less twice their target rate, and a lot of the drop is a one-off due to fuel prices, with food inflation still close to 10%. A few of the committee voted for a rise last time. There would need to be much clearer signs high rates are working before a drop is likely.

    My own informal temperature check is the amount of people I see that are still spending. With restaurants and leisure facilities still extremely busy, we need to see more signs that people are cutting back to get a drop in rates.

    Shipping being unable to use the Suez Canal is likely to be inflationary. Knee jerk reactions to head lines is how not to run an economy.
