Breakdown, Green flag ? Rescuemycar ?

I need breakdown insurance as my car cover expired this month.
Using the info on this website I have been looking at options. I have previously used green flag but see no mention on them anymore on here.
I only need a simple cover and realise than insuring car rather than person is cheapest way to go . I tried the link for Rescuemycar and wondered why adding National recovery made the price cheaper. Roadside, Nat Recovery, At Home and No excess for £18. Seems really good value. Has anyone else followed this route and found it ok. Thanks

  • Personally would recommend Start Rescue. Most of my family are with them too and they have called them out a few times were good.

You can get an MSE discount code for them too

  • Excluding some of the manufacturer services, there's only three breakdown providers in the UK with any fleet of their own.

AA and RAC have big fleets, Green Flag have a small fleet.
They all use their own vehicles, as well as local contractors.

Every other provider just uses local contractors - and if you break down somewhere, chances are you'll get the same van whoever you actually pay. Figure out what you need - then find the best price for that. All the comparison engines do breakdown.

Personally, I have several older vehicles including a camper - and I want two people to be covered in any of them, plus European cover. So, for me, the best value is a Nationwide FlexPlus bank account. £13 per month for full personal Euro cover for us both plus global travel and mobile phone insurance. It's actually provided by the AA.

I have just renewed my AA breakdown cover. The renewal quote was double what I paid last year. Went through Quidco and for simple roadside assist was £84, but adding National recovery brought price down to £78 as there was a 40% off deal (ends tomorrow). The 40% off was off total bill, so went down by £104. Then used the AA "chat" service and agent agreed to renew at that price. Always worth trying different options and checking for any "deals". It is also cheaper with both AA and RAC to select single car rather than 1 person. Good luck. .
  • I take out AA family membership for 4 people every year, well the last 4 years that is.
    Around 1st August.
The AA tend to offer 50% in April, May or June.
You all need to live at the same address. B)
Works out around £25/ £35 each a year after Qudco etc.
Plus you can take out cover 59 day ahead.
Every year we end the cover and another family member takes out new policy.
    Home, Relay, National and onward.

Not needed to use the cover so have no idea if good or bad, but have a disabled passenger, so should speed things up if needed.
