Ex wife took out new mortgage product without consent

  • This has literally just happened to me and it is very distressing. I had a message last night to say 'great news, youve completed your rate switch'.

I have been supported by a domestic abuse charity for male victims.

Financial abuse and control is recognised as a crime and that was one element of abuse used by my ex amongst other things.

Not only has she not discussed the changes or sort my consent (this was despite me trying to raise the mortgage rate via solicitors and in person). She had taken out a 5 year fixed rate, which means once the divorce eventually goes through, I'd be liable to pay a hefty early settlement penalty for something I'd not had any knowledge off.

The mortgage lender had been informed last year that we were separated and going through a divorce so needed consent from us both. This didn't happen. The lender has fortunately put a stop on the rate change and raised a complaint.

A responsible lebder will not continue with an application if the joint borrowers are in the process of divorce.

Its grey, to whether it fraudulent or not its morally wrong to agree to New financial agreement without in someone's knowledge.
