They charge for brown bin here. Free if you only put the food in but even a cut flower in & they would not lift it as I dont pay for garden waste. That's just nuts beanie!
Here we pay for our green bin, but I don't really want garden waste in the car so it's worth it!
What irritates me is that our neighbours with the plastic grass routinely place their spent potted plant soil at the back of our garden shed - they could ask to use our green bin if they tried a bit harder to be polite! I've now shovelled it all back to behind their shed!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Thankfully we don't have to pay extra for any of our 4 bins. I suspect it is because they know we are all tight & wouldn't recycle. They also tell us how much each bin costs so at least we know it is not just better to recycle but saves us money too.

GP, MrM have 'the man from' branded pineapple (chunks or rings) on 2 for £1.25. Not as good a deal as MrL was but still may be of interest to you.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

No extra charge for any of our bins here, but as we are on the rural round (places where the big truck doesn't fit 😂) we just don't have some that others have - so they don't take glass from us, or food/garden waste. Which is fine, as I compost everything I can so wouldn't be giving away precious compost fodder anyway 😂 Glass does build up somewhat though, and we have an occasional epic trip to the bottle bank with a car full 😮 Fortunately the tip isn't far, and has decent opening hours, no queues, and no stupid ticket/permit system. There are some advantages to living in the middle of nowhere!4

Good Morning MFW'rs
beanie - how do the council know that you may have done everything correctly, and then someone shoved a dandelion in whilst the bin was awaiting collection? They leave your food waste rotting on in the bin? Our lot merrily wittered on that it 'wouldn't result in any more fly-tipping'......
redo - thanks, that is worth knowing as it does represent a saving of 32p a tin on MrL - although I'd have to check the tin size. I general go to MrM if I go to the next market town along for things, so I shall bear it in mind.
cheery - that's definitely a lot of hassle for the householder. Our lot are introducing appointments for all our tips though (I think), irrespective of how urban/rural the area they serve 🫤
Well, I'm always happy to be proved wrong, and the footy was quite interesting to watch....... the fellas will catch up with the lasses for quality just now....... 😁
Shopping day today - although this week I've mostly been in the shops already! I will try to keep costs down, but as we've discussed, the 'basics' cost enough now. One more week of school day snap to cater for.
I may get my parcel today. At least it has now come to within deliverable distance from the "local" hub. If it just hangs out there for the next 3 days, I shan't be terribly impressed.
Out the doors early this evening to club, so DH and I will have tea later.
Can't think of owt else MSE to add at the mo.
Ta for popping in and getting involved in the convo. Appreciated.

Well after some idiot put a part eaten pizza in my paper bin twice you can see why they get a tad annoyed. I mean why not put it in the food waste bin rather than polluting my paper bin. From a brief chat I had with some collectors though it seems this is fairly normal behaviour for some & they can actually see them messing with bins out for collection on the road in front of them. I'm sure people haven't always been this ignorant.

We pay for the garden waste collection, although you can start the payments at any stage of the year and just pay for the remaining months, so for those of us with small gardens we can just let it fill up through the summer and then start paying as and when actually having it collected will be useful.
As for the booking system for the tip - we've found it works extremely well, although you do have to be a bit organised as far as actually remembering to book when you have stuff to go! It is nice to go down there and not have to queue though, and as a rule people are also pretty decent about just taking their car load, emptying it and moving on, as the perception is that you should be in and out in your allotted time slot. All in all, I'm in favour - our lot have recently announced our booking system (which was a trial originally) will be staying, and I didn't hear many folk objecting locally.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
