Good Evening MFW'rs
I feel underappreciated in my art......... DH came home, and LG was busy telling him that we were having 'quiche' for tea, and I said, it's not quiche, it's bobotie...... cue them both dancing around the kitchen singing "Salagadoola menchicka boola, Bibbidi bobbidi boo, Put 'em together and wuddaya got, bibbidi bobbidi boo......" 🙄 DH is old enough to know better....... 🙄🤣
Anyhoo, The (veggie) bobotie was dished up with a baked potato and some french beans. LG loved the bobotie, especially the topping. DH noted there was some sweetness in the bobotie (raisins) and LG didn't hesitate about diving into their baked potato - YAY! There are 4 portions of bobotie left - there should have only been one, and some of the 'curry', but I blitzed the feta, and I added the eggs, and should have used a silicone spatula to mix it thoroughly - I didn't. So I was pouring it on top of the curry, and it was obvious that there was more topping than room in the casserole dish, and that the remaining topping was slightly more feta than egg/yoghurt 🙄 So I put the remaining 'curry' into a smaller casserole dish, and then stirred the feta mix better and added in another egg, and it made just enough topping for the second bobotie. When cooked, I portioned the smaller casserole up into 3 and there was a portion of the main bobotie left too. I also cooked up 2 larger baked potatoes with the 3 for tonight, and DH and I will have them for tea tomorrow night - when LG is at club.
I made a fruit cake - it used up the last of the raisins bought for Christmas puddings/cakes, and the last of the cherries. I added in some mixed spice too. It's currently cooling.
I know the baked potato wasn't crispy, crunchy skinned, but LG ate it up no bother, so if we can keep on with this familiarisation, perhaps baked potato will become in more frequent rotation. And I'm pleased that LG liked the veggie bobotie - it's something else from DH & I's past, that we can add to the rotation, and helps with keeping to budget. I can't make the oven version all the time, but know that I could if the circumstances arise - and there's other things to fill the oven at the same time.
Thank you for popping by. Greying X

Thanks EH. I have been running my dehumidifier a timer most nights (to dry the washing) but I have just turned the timer off for tonight and made a note to clean the filter in the morning.EssexHebridean said:Absolutely make sure that the filter and vents on the dehumidifer are dusted/vacuumed regularly Greying - dust build up can be a fire risk on them! Good Morning MFW'rs
I'm going to have to set up a rotation of washing and dehuing. The weather forecast for literally the next fortnight is rain, rain, snow, and more rain 🙄 We will be wandering about in the Emperor's new clothes by Monday at this rate 😬 So much for being mindful of energy use 🙄
Needs must!
I am going to go shopping to our "smaller" MrL today and I'll swing by fArmf00ds too. The staff were nicer at the smaller store (staff churns, I know that), and although it's a smaller store, I think they have to potential to have most everything on my list. I don't go there often as the larger store is nearer to me, but I'll give it a go.
Club for LG tonight. I'm thinking of lentil bolognese for tea - LG can have theirs with pasta, and DH and I can have ours over a baked tattie.
Right, snap to prep, and I can't think of anything else mega-MSE related at the mo, so I'm gonna shuffle orf.

bobotie ...now there is something I have not had in the longest time.
A lovely lady at a WI market near a previous house used to make it. Eventually I asked her to make me some every month and promised on the day I would turn up and buy all she had. They froze wonderfully. I remember her telling me very sternly that I was young enough to do my own cooking and rolled her eyes when I said yes, but I work full time in London and have a horse so I can't and having your food in the freezer means I eat well. I'm not sure she approved but she had lived in South Africa and made it regularly there. It was delicious.
off to google how to make it for future reference
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Am testing the hot soak method on butter beans this morning GP as I forgot to put them on to soak last night. They’ll get plenty of time anyway, but a hot blast to start them off can only help I figure!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

🤞 it works for you tmv. I just had a quick peek in my KR method book, and it doesn't list butter beans - nor lima beans, unfortunately, but the 'closest' in size they list is dried broad beans (I wonder if they mean dried BB's as we would recognise them, or fava beans - which I'm more used to seeing... 🤔), which they give as 10 minutes (if pre-soaked), so plus one-third would be around 14 minutes.... Does that chime in with your normal cooking times for butter beans?themadvix said:Am testing the hot soak method on butter beans this morning GP as I forgot to put them on to soak last night. I'd agree that a regularly vacuumed filter/front probably removes the majority of the risk of running dehumidifiers overnight, plus of course working smoke alarms make a huge difference to the risks one feels are acceptable and I'm sure we all have those! I do sometimes run ours through the night if the energy prices are super-low/negative, but then I also opt to use the DW & WM overnight and that too is technically something that the fire service would recommend against, sooo..!
We've had to opt for washing on the airer indoors today too Greying. Not bothered with the dehumidifier though (not least as we are out, obviously!) as it will dry fine without it by tomorrow morning which is the soonest I need any of it - the room it is sitting in does get nice and warm which is immensely helpful when drying is required!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

I haven't got that far yet! Will have to check. As they'll have had the best part of 8 hours too, it's probably a guessing game - I just don't want crunchy beans! (Which I have definitely found to be an issue when soaking chickpeas for anything less than 20 hours - hence the excitement of discovering I can forget until the morning and still be OK 😊)Greying_Pilgrim said:

Heated airer and DW here overnight too... I totally get where they're coming from, but I choose to be sensible (risk-mitigation/smoke alarms etc.) and then not think about it too much! 😬Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
