Well. ........... I followed the recipe for Carrot Borscht. If I'm honest, Jury's out. LG said they didn't like it (but did eat the portion they were given), DH said it "wasn't his favourite soup", and I felt that it was disappointing and I've had better carrot soups. Now, is it the fault of the recipe? Probably not actually. I used a pinch of chipotle chilli flakes - which can sometimes be fine, and other times you get a hit as hot as hades. Today was that day - it sure as heck didn't dissipate through the 2+ pints of soup 🥵 The caraway was probably a flavour profile that LG isn't used to - they have had it in stuff before, but they actually commented about the lemon, and I can only assume that the lemon was less 'lemony' and a bit more...... stale is probably a word I'd go for, I find sometimes lemons are like that.
I used greek yoghurt rather than sour cream, but that was ok (ie not off). The carrots were the horse carrots from the MrAl bag - so not the sweetest.
To be fair, there weren't many ingredients, so I've not wasted a whole heap of cash making it, and whilst I like the name/thought of the dish, I don't think I will be transferring it to my recipe index. It made an edible soup (with the ingredients I used), and made enough for lunch - LG was relieved there were no leftovers 🤣

GP - Would LG eat beetroot? I regularly make beetroot & horseradish soup (my version of a recipe from a NT magazine years ago). I use a pack of cooked beetroot, onion, potato & horseradish sauce. Although it contains the horseradish, it's not at all hot.

Hi kayannie - unfortunately not ☹️ Although to be fair, I've not made a beetroot soup - I've only ever tried to get them to eat eg shredded beetroot, or diced beetroot - in a salad, or I think I once tried to get them to eat beetroot in a lentil dish. Mind, I've not tried beetroot on them for a while. But they have got this notion in their head that they don't like it. To be fair, they at least started eating the soup today, because they could see it was carrot. Their enthusiasm paled after the first chilli-wave hit 🫤 I suspect beetroot soup would be rejected immediately because of it's colour. It's a shame, as beetroot is a nutritional powerhouse, and I'd love for them to eat it. Ah well, all the more for me! [JOKE!!!]
Ta for popping in - lovely to *see* you 😁

GP - I somehow thought that would be your answer, a purple soup would be a step too far for some sdults, never mind a chlld. It is delicious though!
I pop in to 'see' you most days, even though i don't comment much. I always seem to be busy doing other things, although i'm probably just slowing down in my old age!

Good Morning MFW'rs
Grey, cloudy and misty start with us. No breeze, and a small chance of showers, so no laundry today ☹️ I am going to have to bite the bullet this week though, as the 5 day forecast is wet, wet, and with more wet, so something will have to give. DH has clean workwear to use, but I do need to catch-up.
beetee appear to have switched off our supply at midnight. All very well, we don't use them now, but as far as I can see, they are taking a day that I'm supposed to still pay for their service 🙄 And, because they demand their equipment back (although I can pay £65 for it, if I really want to keep it 🙄), they helpfully supply a mailing slip (that I have to print off), and I have to find a box or bag to parcel it up in as well 🙄 In their own words "anything will do" - and yet the onus is on me to get it back to them? Pfffft! Bleepin' company. I shan't waste my time waiting for 0p3n r3ach to come and mend the hole in our wall and reappoint the tarmac they excavated in an effort to delay our attachment to the service in the first place 🙄
Tea last night ended up being plant-balls and tomato vegetable sauce with steamed rice. It was a bit of a cop-out, but I was actually quite full from lunch and there wasn't the incentive to slave over a hot SC 😉 I did use HM tommie sauce (full of veg), and I did add in frozen mixed veg (carrots, cauli, peas and french beans), and some frozen spinach. It was more veg packed that UPF (I think). Pud was plain yoghurt and banana for DH & I and LG had yoghurt with the last portion of apple crumble.
Right, I'm struggling to think of anything else MSE - not too sure if that's down to normal mid-month lull, or 'coz it's January. I'm incredibly blessed that it's not due to it being a Monday, or anything cerulean.

Doesn't sound like a cop out to me, sounds like a perfectly reasonable tea! I had a microwaved baked spud with a dollop of quark and a handful of rocket - in effort terms you could describe it as a cop out, but actually pretty well nutritionally balanced, with carbs, protein, veg, just like yours was 😊 (and quite frankly as long as the nutrition evens out over the days I'm very tolerant of the odd meals without everything in) They don't always have to be gourmet!
Happy Freedom from the telecoms folk Day! 😃6 -

@Greying_Pilgrim would grating a bit of beetroot into soup work? Not recognisable and boosts colour slightly. Once eaten, all could be revealed?! Love Humdinger xx5

Dearest Humdinger - I am just listening to Liza T on eye-patch-player, and the Danger Twin's "I'm Feeling It" was on. I chuckled to myself, as - not in specific reference to your post - but I am, at this moment, sincerely 'not feeling it' and that applies to everything not just food. It's a stacking up of approx 904 itty-bitty-silly-nonsense things.Humdinger1 said:@Greying_Pilgrim would grating a bit of beetroot into soup work? Not recognisable and boosts colour slightly. Sorry, normal service will be resumed at some point. I'm away to give myself a stiff talking to, and to give my head a wobble. Freddie & the dreamers are on now.....

Best way of persuading people that they actually do like beetroot that I know is to shove some into brownies, or a cake!
As for overly chilli-hot food - a squeeze of lemon juice can help to take the edge off - at least a bit.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
