About a million years out of date, but our breakfast burritos used to feature:
- Rice (any variety)
- Black beans (often cooked with a can of chopped tomatoes, a diced onion, and chilli flakes)
- Scrambled eggs
- Cheap jarred salsa
- A wee bit of grated cheddar
The worst thing about them was probably the amount of single-used plastic used. Some people freeze them in large Pyrex-type trays, but we always wrapped ours individually, never sat right in terms of the clingfilm. At least we could recycle that now, but still not great. This was pre-WFH days.7 -
ed - thanks sweetie! That's a fine tip about the egg, I wondered if there was a work around. But thinking about it - now you've explained - I'm not going to have the reheating capability, so for what I was thinking, they are probably a non-starter. However, I would like to do them at some point, although I accept your point about the plastic - we don't have plastic wrap in the house.
The app situation is interesting. Although the shops want loyalty, I think it's necessary for my family to shop at different stores to be able to keep somewhere near to budget. I really don't routinely see things that I would buy at an 'app' price. I can think of 2 recent examples - the jam and some oven chips, although as the oven chips have upset DH's stomach, I don't buy them now anyway. I realise some of the PoTW items are sometimes further reduced for app holders, but again, I can't think of anything where I've thought 'oh, I would have got that, had I the app'. However, never say never - we used to be consistent MrT shoppers, and earn several years of full breakdown (car, not nervous) cover just from points. I rarely go in MrT now - sometimes for a speck of school uniform, sometimes for World Foods offers - but CC points are a fraction of what they used to be. At the moment, I do spend a larger proportion of my grocery budget in MrS, than MrL.
I need to get a wash on, although it's not going to be drying weather for the next week or so, according to the forecast. Very autumnal still days. But dry, and with a bit of sun, so that's something.
Tea last night was tomato pasta and omlette for LG and baked potato and veggie bean chilli for DH and I. We finished off the apple steam pudding for pud. I actually used an eating apple from our holiday stay at the end of summer, and because it came off a tree and has ripened, oh goodness it was fragrantly aromatic in the sponge. Absolutely delicious. The sort of thing that you can't help smile as you eat - all because of simple, but "good" ingredient. I see DH keeps on overlooking an apple in the bowl - it came from a shop, it's not one of the free gifted apples, but it looks like it's an amalgam of apples - part gala and part russet, sort of thing. It looks unattractive, but I'm going to try it, and hope that it tastes scrummy. I love russet apples.
Right, can't think of anything else MSE, but must get the wash started and then on to snap prep.

I put some saving out for the whole day the other day. It didn't fully dry so I put it on the airer in the kitchen, and it had been outside for so long that inside ended up snelling of outside, it was lovely 😍 I love autumnal smells 😊😊9

I cannot see how forcing customers to increase app use is good for the environment or for phone security.Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 11st 12lb determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. DH has a couple of apps on his phone, and perhaps it is just shonky (and - shock horror - it is a couple of years old), and he's forever complaining that it's overloaded/going slow/freezing etc. I've just always assumed it was us being luddites, but surely phones can't have infinite capacity for calls/emails/photos and apps? Or it that worked out by using cloud storage for everything, and you just actually have apps on your phone now? I must admit, I transfer most of the pics I take on the phone to other storage devices, but DH doesn't and takes more video than me too.
Third general/uniform wash is on. It's still as anything out there, I'm probably making a rod for my own back and will have to get the dehu out to dry everything.
Tea will probably be hot dogs and chips. LG has a little piece of pizza in their pack up today, so I want to avoid repetition.
DH has signed up for work tomorrow, so we won't be going anywhere. But we do need to have a go at the garden, as it will be the last green bin collection (for us), this week - as we'll be away when the actual 'final' collection is made, as we've made the decision not to renew our permit going forward.

Well done on getting rid of cling film, we have managed to reduce our use by about 1/2 and we recycle 1/2 of this. Not saintly by any measure but a balance reached which is better for the planet than before 🙂5

We often use nonstick paper for frozen sandwiches that get zapped rather than plastic or foil, then then do need corraling in a reusable baggie while in the freezer to prevent freezer burn, but we turn them over quick enough to avoid that.

I can't remember when I last used cling film, although there's a roll in a drawer that's been there for years. Butties are wrapped in the bags that bread comes in & reused if still clean. I usually only use foil for lining the grill pan if I'm grilling anything that might make a mess & that's not often, usually LM's sausages. No meat eaten for the last 40+ years.
