Well now you know, you can report them.
I'd like to, but the problem is I don't know how! I know I've seen "Report this Seller" somewhere on one of Ebay's pages before, but it doesn't seem to be an option anywhere now.

You have to copy and paste the seller's username into the actual report form.

Hopefully this link will work but if not, I've always found the page via a Google search.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/resolving-issues-sellers/reporting-item-issue-seller?id=4022

They certainly don’t make it easy to report a seller. I tried to do so earlier in the year, as a seller cancelled an order stating they were out of stock. The same seller had the same book listed at a higher price. I couldn’t file a report on the website so reached out to eBay on a social media site. They said they could file the report for me but to send them the username and evidence privately, as naming the seller publicly wasn’t allowed. (Why? If you don’t want to be shamed, be honest!) Anyway, the DM wouldn’t send and eBay were blaming my device, I wasn’t doing it right etc. Another user said that they had the same issue as me trying to get details to eBay, so I concluded that they’d disabled messages from people they didn’t follow and that CS Rep simply didn’t understand what was required from their end/didn’t want to admit that eBay had made a mistake in their settings.

Thanks - that was worth a go, but I filled out the form as you suggested, and all it resulted in was the error message "We ran into a problem. Please try again later."

To be brutally honest I suspect that Ebay simply don't want to employ enough Customer Service reps to handle complaints like this, so they "accidentally" make it so that the form doesn't work. But at least I tried!

I tend to phone eBay about things or else use live chat (at least with live chat you get a transcript).

I would do an item not as described and return it with them paying for return label and return exactly what they sent you.

i had one similar - someone returning new iPad I sold but returned sellotape instead and sent to neighbor with same postcode (changed house number in pen) . I’m amazed I discovered what they did but I went all detective and amazingly eBay sided with me for once ( the seller) so that scam failed but this seller is either dodgy , or someone at post office is or he was having a bad day and messed up. Hope you get it sorted
