Stolen Car

I left my car keys in my boyfriend’s glove box over night and people were able to get into my boyfriend’s locked car and take the keys stealing my car! Unsure as to where I stand with Insurnace and just wanting advice.

Aware that the keys were unattended but the car was locked

Read the terms of the policy.

How did they gain access to the vehicle?

  • we don't know my partner is a key less start so presuming they were able to get in with a device
  • What have your insurance said to begin with as you will have already reported the theft?

I think the insurance company will be asking you to provide a plausible reason why the keys were in the car in the first place

  • On what you have said here, the story sounds extremely odd.

My first question would be were you sure the car doors were locked? My experience is of cars refusing to lock from outside if they detect another key still inside the car.
