I have just been been debanked by Santander. I have sent an SUBJECT ACCESS REQUEST and a stern letter re County Court action .
It can ONLY be because of my Brexit views ....however I need a new bank account BUT I am currently in Thailand for 3 years and I think it will be very difficult......
Can anyone suggest a bank that I can open an account from Thailand and is a well trusted bank. I have life savings (not a lot) and just retired 1 year ago and soon , 4 months I will require a download of funds into my Thai bank account to live.....
Help
Cheers for ANY advice

Seems there is a much more realistic and obvious problem that has caused them to close your account... you are no longer a UK resident. Santander UK doesn't have a license to operate in Thailand so cannot provide banking services to someone living in Thailand for 3 years.
All UK banks will require you to be resident here to open a new account so either you commit fraud on your application (which will be the reason you get your account closed again not your political views) or you need to look at a non-UK option. Most the banks have an Offshore/Ex-Pat offering but these are mainly aimed at the more well off.
Any reason not just to use the local banking of your chosen country of residence?21 -
Lol. Of course it is.daabren said:

Or, back in the real world, it is nothing to do with the way you voted seven years ago and everything to do with you no longer being resident in the UK, which is a condition of you having a current account with Santander.daabren said:I have just been been debanked by Santander.

A SAR will get you your bank data, but I doubt you will get what you think you believe you will get. What grounds do you plan to undertake "County Court action", it is unlikely you have any grounds to do so.daabren said:I have sent an SUBJECT ACCESS REQUEST and a stern letter re County Court action .
No mainstream UK bank will allow you to open an account whilst you are not resident in the UK.daabren said:Can anyone suggest a bank that I can open an account from Thailand and is a well trusted bank. daveIt CAN'T only be because of your Brexit views (No matter how poor they are).ANY advice? Yes.There are a plethora of reasons why accounts are closed - and you've given a gigantic, ginormous, elephant sized clue as to why it's likely happened in your post (And no it's not because of your Brexit views!). If you're not living in the UK - they can (and likely have) withdrawn banking facilities. Banks are not daft - they can soon work out who is and who isn't living in the UK from your digital footprint. When you make a payment - log into your account and things like that - they know where you are. So even if you haven't told them you're there - they'll likely have a good idea you are.Are you living in Thailand on a conventional residential visa? Then you should have no problem opening local banking facilities.1 -
How would Santander know what your Brexit views are?
I think @DullGreyGuy has given the correct answer here.1 -
I got debanked by RBS 6 years ago... for being in persistent debt. :'(0
