Email notifications

Up until last Thursday my John Lewis (NewDay)  credit card sent me an email after every transaction with the payee and amount. Unfortunately "In the interest of security" they've changed this to only send a notification on transactions over £100.
This feature was critical for me.
Does anyone know of an alternative provider that offers this service please?
Thanks
David

Not e-mail, but Natwest send a screen message to my mobile phone every time my credit card is used, mostly within seconds of the transaction (and no matter the value of the transaction).
  • Amex send a notification for every transaction.

Not all transactions will go through authorisation so there may be some where you would not get a notification.

  • Thanks. I really want an email rather than on screen notification as I can easily forward the email to my wife who logs everything in our household finance software.

I typed into Google: UK credit card email notifications.

I got a number of results back including Barclaycard and Santander.
ThisMSE thread was also returned with suggestions:
Though I don't know if all those notifications listed in the thread are by email.
So some starting points for your search.
Also don't assume all banks in the same group prvide the same facilities. According to a posting in the linked thread, HSBC provide notifications of some description. However First Direct do not provide notifications as far as I can tell.

Is there any reason why it's vital to update the finance software that very second given that presumably your wife isn't sat at the PC refreshing email constantly ready to put in the software? Could you not simply send her an email or a message on the phone stating the vendor and amount rather than forwarding an email?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

TBH. Most will be moving to either push notifications or text. Given the cost of emails & not as easy to work round, given they may be held back.

Or just log in on a regular basis and check the account,
  • Thanks for the replies.
I've since discovered that this is a Mastercard issue - they have decided that notifications for less than £50 are a way to increase fraud (I've no idea how and they couldn't tell me either).

As to why I can't manually tell my wife what I spent & when - I think the time it's taken me to respond to the messages in this thread will answer that :)
