I had a smart meter installed 10 days ago (Octopus) and everything has been working OK, until today.

All lights (WAN, MESH, HAN, GAS etc) are flashing every five seconds, so it looks like the comms hub is working as it should. However, if I go into the Loop Home app, it says the last update was 09:00 today.

Weirder still, pulling data from n3rgy only shows data until midnight. I'm confused as to why this doesn't display the nine hours of data from midnight, which Loop is using? I also don't understand why there's no new data since this morning, given my smart meter seems to be working? How often is data retrieved through the day?

    Typically once a day...
Different organisations that you allow to access your data will perform their daily retrieval at various times of the day so they will not all have the same end point.

Request an Octopus Home Mini which gives live data via your wi-fi and the Octopus app.
  • Smart meters don't push data, they work by getting pull requests by your supplier, or loop or bright etc. Yes they give 30 minutes data intervals but generally only once a day. They don't send anything until requested, and the times are often random, they have to request millions of data every day, it would be unreasonable to poll every smart meter every half hour.

  • With Bright, you can try a data refresh. It depends on how busy everything between you and your meter is which will determine whether you get an update straight away, and then it won't necessarily be to the current time. Usually AFAIK it'll be Bright's servers that determine this, but equally the DCC may be too busy to handle the request.

n3rgy has now caught up with Loop, in that the electricity data goes up to 9AM yesterday.

Weirdly, my gas usage last night appears fine in Loop, Hugo, n3rgy, but the electricity still hasn't been updated since yesterday morning. Wouldn't both sets of data be retrieved at the same time?

    Not necessarily.
If you are just depending on the daily data retrievals there will be delays and inconsistencies from time to time and the data may not always be available to you at the same time of day.
This is where an Octopus Mini is useful as it enables you to see data from your meters as the consumption occurs (or every 30 mins for gas) in the Octopus app.
