Good luck with that; but PayByPhone is an app and is spelt just like that, not Pay by Phone as an instruction on the sign, I suspect if you had gone to the ticket machine it will state that you can pay by Ringo which the actual app/company they do use.
I honestly think you are just going to have to accept you didn't read it correctly, but see what they say at Pepipoo

Yes, I agree with you @fisherjim, but looking again at that sign...

...I wonder why the phrase 'Pay by Phone' has 'Phone' with a capital 'P', but 'Pay at machine' has 'machine' with a lowercase 'm'.
Nothing more than 'artistic licence' I guess. Has the 'artist' been swayed by the name of a popular app.  ;)
  • I do accept that I didn’t read it correctly and failed to notice that the location number was not where I was located .  However  I have the text saying I did in good faith register with what I thought was the correct company, and I did check the text when it popped through which gives no mention of the geographical location  . I had no fee to pay and to now have to pay £80 seems ridiculous - I acted in good faith and the council have not been deprived of income as the parking session was free.  Ironically it was also a free parking session wherever the Ringo location was otherwise this would have Meade me look more closely .I feel the sign was very misleading .

But you need to ask on pepipoo.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

  • I got fleeced by Camden council on the 19th of December. Parked up, read the sign, went on the app, and it kept saying location not found. Tried on the wifi to no avail, took a time stamped screenshot anticipating I might need to take it up with them in due course, then resorted to telephoning. I tried to start my parking session when I arrived (ie about 6 minutes earlier) and it wouldn't let me, just defaulted to the current time. I later discovered that within 5 minutes of arriving, I had been ticketed so the parking I did pay for started 2 minutes too late!

I have appealed it, I agree the sign is misleading, especially given Camden does allow cashless parking by app and I could have used JustPark at this location (although nothing on the sign to say so and no physical meter option). It is totally legitimate to assume you can use an app, and when they use the exact name of an app (albeit with spaces and one lower case letter) on the sign, it is hardly surprising people get confused!

Saying one is an 'instruction' and it is different to the app seems slightly pedantic to me in the circumstances. If we are being pedantic, it should say "Pay by telephone" or alternatively, "Pay by 'phone". There is no justification for the council capitalising "Phone" on the sign.

As far as I am concerned, I tried to pay for the entire parking period, their automated system wouldn't let me choose a start time, and nowhere does it say that you only have a certain period of time within which to start your parking/no reference to any terms and conditions.

Slightly different circumstances but I'll let you know how I get on.

As per the advice given to the actual OP, you need to go to Pepipoo as this is a council ticket.
  • Did you manage to contest the fine sucessfully? I got  same fine as I paid on “pay by phone” and did not call to go.
