I have read that because most people use the post office to do postage there are not enough sales to warrant some smaller  post offices stocking large letter stamps.

it may be that your  local post office  does not get enough demand for the stamps.

Some sub post offices do not supply all the services that main post offices do.

My OH arrived outside our main post office in town to buy stamps only to find it had closed five months ago.

Managed to get my small parcels sent today at a different post office.  And turns out they were very critical of the one I had gone to.  Chap working there is a temp replacement for the regular person who is on holiday (& I certainly wouldn't blame anyone working in a post office to choose this time of year to scuttle off anywhere!!).  And, they said, he doesn't know what he is doing.  So the rates he had given me were completely wrong - he'd quoted £4.20 each for the two parcels I had but one classed as large letter and was £4.95 and the other £10.  So nearly £15 plus the cost of the envelopes to send presents to 2 people, the cost of the presents being about £4 total.  Ah well - it's the thought that counts.
